Outgained 456 to 232 ... outrushed 148 to 103 (usually the barometer of the game) ... 7-18 to 1-11 in 3rd down conversions, only +1 in turnover margin (key score though) ... and still won. Texas had 11 penalties for 80 yrds and that hurt them some ... just such a weird win. Texas dominated like they did last year ... but they just don't play smart ball sometimes.

They are so improved under Strong ... and so stupid at times. Coaching has made them better ... and coaching is failing at the same time.

The analysts on LHN were surprisingly frank about the outcome. They felt while UT played well, they believed UT cannot claim big improvements when they have not pulled out any close games despite having the chances. About the only thing Vince Young (who cannot be considered an "analyst") said was coach Strong did the right things by cleaning up the program and it showed by UT's play but UT was not doing the little things to win. He said this using double negatives and other improper grammar, so his speech resembled our offense during the first half.

It almost feels icky. They outplayed us most of the day, out coached us all but one drive in the third qtr, and the horns just looked more intense. Even their crowd sounded better on tv. I'm not one for moral victories, so I'll just giv credit where it's due, including to our defense today and especially to it, count this as a lucky one, and not quite celebrate.

Yes, that is the most disconcerting thing about this game and last week's. We are not nearly as good as the hype. The best thing about this win is UT fans are really hurting and kicking themselves because they feel they should have won and blew it. That is the worst kind of loss, and better their fans feel it than us.
