Play 1 - Run Blitz gets absolutely hammered with 4 on 2 at the hole.

Play 2 - Linebacker has to make this play

I'll try to get some more, but gifsoup crashed on me and i need to find an alternative.

Play 3 - Sanchez needs to be shut down for the season, he looks slower than a DL out there.

Play 5 - Evans fills, but he needs to make that play on the other side of the LOS. Linebackers are better, but honestly they are average by OU standards.

Play 7 - This one looks like we had some confusion on the calls. Ndulae goes way too far inside (when he had position on the DL) and Grissom doesn't close. The saddest part is Evans getting blown up

He isn't the only one. This reminds me a lot of a BV defensive performance. You have 2 consistent guys out there (Ndulae and Grissom) and they are pressing because no one else can make a play causing them to be much worse.

Our first play. Interesting design

WRs crack back on the linebackers, we pull the TE and outside tackle to take out the corner/safety with the guard having to take out the DE. In other words, a lot of moving pieces where things are going to go wrong

actual result - OG doesn't seal so the play is spread out to the sideline. TE/T end up being taken out by the corner leaving 1 on 1 safety/RB in a 5 yard corridor. Safety wins

OU Play 2 - dive up the middle

Straight ahead blocking with the center supposed to chip and get the linebacker.

Actual Result - Linebacker has none of it and flies past for the tackle. I remember when we had linebackers like this

http://i.imgur.com/YHEFEOs.gif

Note: this is my point on the running game. We execute 7/8 blocks on this play, but the one we fail is at the point of the attack causing a loss on the play.

OU Play 3 - 3rd and 12

Design - Vertical, option route on the TE, 12 yard cross with shep

Actual Result - Horrid option route, shep was open, Guard and Center get destroyed by bull rushes.

This last play is the problem I have had with the passing offense for year. Basic routes, no real options, and even those routes are ran incorrectly about 40 percent of the time.

I realize it's tough for me to look at things through the collegiate eval eyes, but it's not good..Even when OU is winning, it still isn't good.

Have to also wonder if that is why Knight was so inaccurate for the game. If he clubbed his hand on one of those helmets that isn't something that goes away quickly.

That first play with Ross actually doesn't look too bad. If bell and williams don't block the same guy (and one blocks the guy that makes the tackle) ross might have gotten vertical

The ONLY thing I like on this play is the fact that Chuka was playing to the whistle (and made the tackle). Everything else about it is terrible.

that play has to cut up before the hash to be that successful. the guard/center keep that from happening

Is Sanchez just contact shy due to that shoulder injury now?

The problem with shoulder injuries is that you need them for acceleration (try running without your arms, your top end speed is noticeably slower). Had that been a full drag he's have been 30 yards behind him.

A couple of years ago, LB was a glaring weakness. Right now it isn't a weakness or a strength. I think Evans is a good player, but Alexander (as seen in the clip) tends to make things worse when he avoids OL.

This particular play looks worse than it is because Tapper gets shoved back 3 yards so Evans didn't really have an angle. Tapper is another point of contention. He is doubled on nearly every series up to that point and he is worn out by the time this play comes along. I just don't think he has the size to give that kind of exertion consistently on long drives.

TCU Series 2

This series boils down to any time that TCU needs a first down they go at Sanchez. Sanchez helps them out with 2 15 yards penalties although the second one was called on the wrong player. Heck even Patterson is ripping the WR a new one on the sidelines and looks stunned it went on Sanchez instead. They then catch us in a terrible misalignment with the option.

Play 1 - this is why I like Evans.

When they go at anyone but Sanchez, this is pretty much what it looks like. Pre-Injury he was our best cover guy, injured he is the worst.

TCU Series 2 - Play 6

This was supposed to be a deep post route on Sanchez's guy. Our safety is sucked in so it should have been an easy catch, but Sanchez had good enough position to where the throw wasn't made. This is the major reason why I wouldn't be surprised if TCU loses 3 more games this year. They do not throw it to anyone who is technically covered, our problem is an imbalance in coverage from down to down (great then poor).

TCU Series 2 - Play 7

This is kind of a weird deal here. It looks like they were trying to time a button hook with a block on Sanchez to seal the outside lane for a TD. Sanchez slips the pick/block (whatever it was) and makes the tackle even though it wasn't his man. The guy has amazing instincts, I just wish he was healthy.

Sanchez has long had issues with getting beat deep and tackling. Goes back to last year, not just this year when hurt.

Which brings us to the option TD. We are so misaligned it isn't even funny. We have 4 guys on 2 at the bottom until Alexander moves in. I think the problem is the linebacker alignment. I think Evans should be to more gaps to the top and Alexander should be 1 gap lower than Evans is now. Because you shouldn't ever be in a situation where it is 5 on 6 up top and 4 on 2 down low.

Do you have number to back up the deep comment or are you only remembering the Baylor game and applying it to the rest of the season? Every freshman has bad games, that is why teams that start freshman are rarely undefeated.

Makes perfect sense. Been way too long since I could run at anything close what I had for full speed so you tend to forget the amount of work the whole body does when engaged in that kind of effort.

He does have a nose for that ball though....

I didn't qualify the statement. I observed throughout last season and this one, as have others, that Sanchez does not tackle well, takes poor angles to the ball, and gets beat deep frequently. He is the weakest link. Not sure why people gotta whip it out and start measuring when someone shares an opinion, but that's mine buster. I don't have time to diddle with my giffer all day. Glad you do though.

The tackling is debatable. It is much easier for a corner to make off-man tackles in a zone than in a man to man defense. Most OU fans tend to compare our guys versus corners in the past that were grilled in a zone defense to stop the run versus our current incarnation where stopping the pass comes first. I'm comparing Sanchez to some of the Texas guys that have ran man to man and his tackling is about the same as a guy like Quentin Jammer.

Poor Angles - once again, are we talking about in pass coverage or are we talking about run support or non-man tackling. Sanchez's strength is his break on the ball which implies taking a great angle. In run support it goes back to the weakness of being a pure corner in a man to man defense. Most teams tend to have their corners play safety for 2 years to learn to tackle before they stick them at corner. We didn't have that luxury.

Getting Beat - getting beat regularly is synonymous with Pee Wee Woods who got burned deep an astounding 26 times in 1999. Sanchez is more in the 7-8 range which is similar to Woolfolk/Michael Thompson. With guys like him, you have to play the risk reward game. Are you willing to trade .7 deep balls a game for .9 turnovers a game?

One thing that I left out is my conjecture about why he is still on the field. I think he is still out there because of 1 INT/Game. I think the coaches feel that Stephen Parker isn't going to give enough of an upgrade to overcome that number.

Yep, could see that one coming with the way we lined up. I also liked how wide they have the two receivers lined up at top. Gives them a lot more space to run that play obviously. Which makes me wonder if the guy covering the inside receiver needs to cheat a little bit to help with a possible run play.
