There seems to be a current rumor that JH is the leading candidate for the head coaching job at SMU. Not sure Josh would be interested in going down that dead end street...

He should wait for a P5 conference school that has decided to get serious after some down years. Those come up all the time. Or at least a smaller school with less admin problems than SMU.

Bob Stoops will decide for him, won't he? Does he want to stick with Josh Heupel running the offense, or will he attrition his way to a new OC a la Chuck Long (SDSU)? Sure, the coaches might *think* that it's their choice, but I'm sure Bob will nudge them out the door if he wants to.

Is Heupel going to SMU? Let's see how he calls the WVU game this Saturday.

That would be a horrific move for Josh...

He was a finalist for the Louisiana Tech job that Skip Holtz took. He turned that down. I think that is a better job than SMU.

Job, yes. Ruston LA? Hmmm…

Full disclosure: I have a sister that lives in that part of Louisiana and if I visit there, I leave wondering about our species.

SMU is the kind of place a coach in their final years wants to go, and probably not the best place for a coach's first head coaching gig.

I'm sure SMU has interest, but I highly doubt it's reciprocated.

I was in Thibodaux a few years ago and asked a Cajun for directions...I listened politely, then after he gave them to me, I went on down the road 'til I could find someone who spoke English.

Wofford is ready to ink with Josh and Josh is on board. It's a minimum wage job, but it's HIS minimum wage job.

I never got to the backwoods of LA, but I was in NO and BR just before the Sugar Bowl NC game. If I were to guess, I'd say that the LA government uses the general populace to perform chromosomal experiments.

Ruston = Deep South, with a Louisiana twist.
Thibodeaux = Acadiana - Crawfish, "talk about"

It's not all like that man. Especially not like the water boy...
You want to talk about chromosomal experiments, go to Alabama or Miss

June Jones had signed an extention to his contract (http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/12/smu-signs-3-year-extension-with-coach-june-jones.html/) which last through 2017. Will SMU honor that?

A&M & Baylor are also saying their OC is in consideration.

He already resigned after the first two games this season. I would assume any separation agreement will be negotiated and done before they hire someone.

I worked a summer (1985) at Fort Polk in Leesville, it was an experience. Louisiana is a whole different world unto itself.

Why did Jones resign? The article doesn't address that and it was not because they were going to fire him.

If I had to guess, the Dallas crazies and SMU alum/fans might have had something to do with it. When your greatest player Erik Dickerson comes out and says to drop the program if things don't improve, think there's a lot of angst getting sent your way?

I'm sure that as part of the resignation there was a deal with SMU to either pay the remainder (minus anything he gets from another coaching job, if he's not officially retired) or to perhaps split the difference if he really just wanted out as soon as possible and not them wanting him out.

Because he was 7 years into his job at SMU and they were horrible?

He obviously can't recruit at Texas... so what will he recruit at SMU.

Come to SMU... where you can be Garrett Gilbert without the transfer!

What power conference team do you think is going to hire Josh? It would be in everyone's best interest for him to move to Dallas.

Let's say Heupel does leave (SMU or otherwise). Does Stoops try to get Seth Littrell? I'd be all for that, myself (assuming Heup leaves, which I hope he doesn't).
