As someone who was reminded often of the poor starving children in africa every time they didn't want to finish their dinner as a child, the idea that someone could be a "competitive eater" kind of disgusts me :(

but at the same time, i never fail to water my garden even in the middle of a drought, so whatever

This is the same gal that came through Des Moines and took on a couple
of local eating challenges a couple of months back. One of the challenges
is a HUGE sandwich named after a local basketball player...let's see, a
spicy pickle, bun, pork tenderloin, chicken tenders, fried cheese, TX brisket,
smoked bacon cheese burger and a pound of waffle fries. The sandwich weighs
around seven pounds...she did it in about 7 minutes (the challenge is 15 min)
then left and went to another local place and ate a gazillion wings or something,
but 2 72 ounce steaks and the trimmings...Holy Alka Seltzer, Bat Man!!!

I've seen those "steaks" at the Big Texan. They look more like a roast.

I went in there with a buddy once who'd been talking big about how he could do it. He took only one look at it before he changed his tune.

But I have been in there when two guys did finish it. One, a not very big guy finished it easily, the other did it with only minutes to spare and damn did he look miserable.

It is pretty stunning what the woman can do...

Vet...you would hit that!

The 5-foot-7, 125-pound mother from Bellevue, Nebraska, ate her second 4½-pound steak in 9 minutes and 59 seconds.

The restaurant foots the bill for anyone who can eat one of the steaks, a baked potato, shrimp, a salad and bread roll in under an hour, so Schuyler ate those side dishes as well.
In February, the self-described "bottomless pit" ate 363 chicken wings in 30 minutes in Philadelphia

I'm thinkin' that I would keep my most treasured member at a very safe distance from her, particularly if she's hungry which apparently is all the time.

The one time I was there a guy with an OU shirt took the challenge. Randomly, a guy with a horn shirt also came to the table. The OU guy was methodical, and completed it with several minutes to spare. The horn was in great haste, and quit in utter failure. I was proud.

I think that's more meat than I eat in a week or close to it.

There always seems to be OU folks in there. Last time I was there in fact someone stood up and gave the ol: Boomer!

...and sure enough, someone across the room bellows out: Sooner!

My friend that I spoke of earlier is a big UT fan, so of course I commented: now those are some good people! Then his daughter told me I should have to walk home and I kinda let it go at that cause home was about 375 miles away.

I could *maybe* do 1/4 in an hour...maybe.

I initially expected the woman to be a big girl, but that never seems to be the case with the competitive eaters.

Something about the fat folks that you'd naturally think would be the best at this don't have as much room for their stomachs to expand, what with being encased in fat and all.
