As for Syria, whatever he does is criticized. There was a red line drawn but, good for him for not jumping into military action. On the other hand, politicians of both parties allow NSA spying to continue. Politicians of both parties allow/support the corralling of protesters into "free speech zones," instead of recognizing that the United States is a free speech zone by virtue of the First Amendment.

At least to that extent, politicians of both parties are authoritarian. I realize that you don't recognize many Republican politicians as true American Conservatives, but that supports my point that the majority of politicians don't represent the people.
