I think the Big 12 copyrighted the Big 14 name also when they became Big 12 although it may have expired by now.

I could see a 64-team (10 Big 12, 14 Big Ten, 14 ACC, 14 SEC, 12 Pac 12) alliance to overthrown the NCAA if changes to big boy college football are not met, which would eliminate the need for conferences and instead rely on more regional games as opposed to 14 teams competing here, 10 here, 12 there, etc.
