The bastage apparently counts Jaime Dimon as a producer, and consigns firefighters and our childrens' teachers to some sort of gray area. Jaime Dimon and his ilk are not only takers, but cockroaches (thks, Coach Royal) who have cost the rest of us much more in wealth destruction than even what they've gained by theft.

Does he include Henrique De Castro as a maker or taker? If you don't know about Mr. De Castro, he was hired on at HP at $40m a year and "departed" Yahoo after 15 months. He got a $109 MILLION walking away present for getting fired. When these guys on the right whine and complain about too few full time year around workers in the good 'ol us of a, I wonder how many on the list of "makers" sent American jobs overseas so they could rake in huge salaries and bonuses?

And try to remember under who ramped up government employment, it is actually down around 500,000 since Obama took office.

Please, please, please start a debate about private sector job growth under Obama compared to bush.

The numbers are big and scary, but I bet that those retired and on Social Security would not be happy to be labeled "takers" as they worked very hard for those benefits. Same with elderly on Medicaid.

In addition, I would venture a very strong guess that some "takers" are also "makers" who qualify for food stamps due to low income, or are working low-income moms who are enrolled in WIC.

I get that we hate the freeloaders that come onto Judge Judy and get exposed as their freeloading selves and get yelled at to find a job and stop making children and being lazy, but that's part of the fun of Judge Judy, hating the freeloaders.

I know that it's scary that we have so many retired people and are bound to have more as baby boomers keep getting older, but this is the way things are. Would you like me to yank the plug on you old farts so you can stop being labeled "takers?" :P

I agree. People on Social Security and Medicare are not takers. They payed into the system. If the government wants to give everybody all the money they paid into the system back with interest and shut it down then fine.

Of course there are people on Social Security disability that are probably scamming the system.

TheHumanAlphabet
4/16/2014, 05:13 PM
You want to include SS, fine. However, it was never to be meant as "retirement income" it was a help and the system was not intended as retire income, it was a help to ensure people didn't starve or go to the soup lines like in the 1930s. Other than that, SS was designed I believe on 10-15:1 ratio, it is now near a 2:1 ratio. this is not sustainable. I would argue welfare and WIC are misused, illegals and others on it, extension of long term unemployment benefits keeping people from working or accepting less than desirable jobs. at what point do we say we can't afford it anymore? Unfortunately, first ones in get the best... All this is saying we are paying for a lot that we can't today or in the future be able to pay for. Same thing for local employee pensions. There is a storm coming and the end won't be pretty. Cities are likely to go under, hell The Socialist is wanting to give Detroit 100 million in breaks to support their pensions... I fault the unions and politicians for agreeing to unsustainable retirement systems and kicking the can down the road...

You are going to deny that the republican party is the party of big business?

Both parties are now in the hands of big business. Obama's largest funding source was the Wall Street banksters. He scolds them in public, but defends their ill-gotten gains with his lack of policies (or weak policies). We have Obamacare, a ginormous subsidy for the insurance industry, instead of single payer health care. Strike 3, early in year five of his presidency, he tried to crack open Social Security using the Chained CPI (echoing Bush the Lesser in yr 5 of his presidency).

Republicans are worse, no doubt about it. But both sides are now beholden to the 1%, not the rest of us.

Of course, if you subtract those with earned benefits like SS and Medicare, and add in government workers to the makers side, the original article's author's point evaporates. He no longer gets to divide us, like the tool of the CEOs that he is.

My plan is to keep working as long as possible so as not to have a respirator to unplug.:mushroom:

i think the key here is to unplug grandma and any single mothers, surely not to increase the number of full-time private sector workers

how many people work less than 35 hours a week by choice? it's not like working part-time exempts you from taxes.

the point is that the corporation is not your friend. they don't care about the country. the people running them don't even care about the corporation. they only care about their bonus this quarter, or their golden parachute deal. if replacing you with 3 people from India is better for the bottom line, you are gone.

they do however have your congress people in their pocket.

i'll rephrase the question from eariler... what is a "top" congress person?

The premise that workers will revolt is laughable. They have to much to lose. The problem will be unemployed youth and income disparity. When those get to be too painful that is when people revolt. Revolutions are always started by the young.

To advert this we have to have job creation and fair trade agreememts.

One is the symptom of the other. We have a real mess in this country because the economic policies of both parties suck. We need to look at incenting companies to invest and move their capital back to the US. Open up energy production and start bringing manufacturing back to the states.

Good thoughts, but opening up energy production is never going to happen under Obama/Clinton. Manufacturing isn't coming back as long as CEO/CFO can get it done for a fraction by sending it overseas. Hate it, but it is what it is.
