If you go by this there will be 3 sec teams in the 4 team playoffs. And why does cincinnati have a Notre Dame logo? 5 sec teams in the top ten.

Good catch on the cincy logo.

No surprises in a list like this since it is little more than non-poll voting writer's idea of where teams should be ranked.

Nobody does less with more than Georgia. Every other team in the top 10 has had a national championship this millennium. Notre Dame too.

Georgia, Georgia,
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

OU is tied for tenth place on Athlon's recruiting rankings, but has a fourth place w/l record over the same time period. If this article were to be published next year, when OU's 4th place Athlon's ranking for 2010 rolls off, we would probably be 13th or 14th in recruiting while having a 4th or 3rd place w/l record.

The article mentions factors (not including pride, Sooner Magic and tradition, among other intangibles) other than recruiting that impact team w/l rankings, but this list is heavily weighted toward Athlon's recruiting rankings. Athlon's also sells magazines to help you figure out how good your team ought to be based on their recruiting rankings.

Back in the day before the intranet, this magazine wet my late summer appetite for Sooner football. Now? Not so much.

According to all the recruiting rankings, Mack Brown used to pull in the National Recruiting National Championship on a yearly basis.

We all know where he is now.

This article would have meant something to me had they used the recruiting rankings from the 2 deep to make their case. We would be somewhere around 25 and they would have been puzzled.

Retired and rich?

Going out with a whimper, not a bang... a big time underachiever. Probably loved more in Oklahoma than texas, just for pure entertainment value, 63-14 and such...

But, yeah... retired and rich.
