View Full Version : OKC mayor race?
So I saw a commercial from this Shadid character. I'm pretty much saying ummm, WTF? It's my first and only exposure to the Mayoral race but he doesn't seem like he has a clue. So what gives?

First off, I'm Tulsan not OKC'an, but from what I've read on NewsOK.com it seems like a far fetched campaign.
The Lost Ogle summarized it up last December neatly here (http://www.thelostogle.com/2013/12/19/ed-shadids-tried-coke-watched-porn-and-other-big-league-city-mayor-things/).
From an outsider's perspective, any campaign against incumbent Mick Cornett seems far fetched, whether it's by this guy or another person. Don't you all love Mick down in OKC?
EDIT: Ah, I see you all are getting bombarded with mailings. Tee hee, your turn to have a vicious mayoral campaign. We had ours last year

I have known Dr. Shadid in the past. All I can say is I'm voting for Mick Cornett.
Shadid has his issues but I do like that he is promoting inner city transit. I thought we were supposed to get light rail with Maps 3 (could be wrong) but I sure haven't seen much about it.

MAPS 3 included a "modern streetcar" which is one step smaller on the mass transit scale than Light Rail. It's still rolling along, the route is mostly set, and ground-breaking is supposed to be Fall 2015. http://www.okc.gov/AgendaPub/cache/2/2n4zinvk0lheaa45vwzjof55/221052403042014024503249.PDF
Shadid has issues with modern streetcar because it only serves downtown and near downtown. I think he wants to direct that part of the MAPS money to improved bus service across all neighborhoods.

I've met Shadid and I've seen Cornett work a room.
If I were evaluating politicians based on character alone, I wouldn't need a voting card.
My recommendation is, vote your interests.

Good to know.
Unless I misread it the gazette showed shadid supporting light rail.
I'm for streetcars and I wish they would get back to the old inner urban days...doubt it would be feasible but I would still love to see it happen
