This is debt held through negotiable instruments like bonds and T-Bills. It does not include money borrowed from the Social Security Trust fund. What it tells me is the new debt accumulated under this administration and the Bush administration is very short term....most under 10 years of age. What that means is it is very sensitive to interest rates and if interest rates go up very much the value of this debt accumulated over the last 10 years will be much less ( bond and treasury values go down as new interest rates go up)causing interest rates on new debt to spike.

Once again it is obvious the US and the Fed are backed into a corner from which there is no escape. At this point a rhesus monkey could call the shots at the Fed and US Treasury......keep printing QE funny money and keep nominal interest rates at zero.
