Serious question, Okie, is there fracking going on in the area? Because other
places around the country have been intimating that the quakes there are from
fracking.....

How much does an Earthquake weigh?

I would suggest disposal wells before fracking... But fracking could also be a cause among others natural and man-caused.

No horizontal drilling or fracking near me. Fracking itself is not causing earthquakes. Disposal wells could cause (or so my geologist friends tell me) minor quakes if the disposal wells were in contact with a fault. All of these areas are heavily faulted. I don't know if there are disposal wells in my area south of Guthrie but there sure hasn't been any horizontal driling and/or hydraulic fracking just north of me. Fracking (vertical wells) has been going on in OK and tX for over 60 years.

The epicenter of the large quake near me was estimated to be 4 miles deep...hard to imagine that a disposal well would be any where near that depth (if that is the connection). It would also beg to question why western and southern OK are not experiencing the same amount of quakes since they are much more heavily fracked than the area near me.

If that were the case, wouldn't nearby states also have an elevated number of quakes?

If you check the US Geological Survey (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/) page, a majority of US quakes are still in Alaska/California/Hawaii area, while Oklahoma usually has a fair amount as well, but nowhere near as many as those three.

Why isn't Texas getting more than 1 per week? Larger state AND just as much fracking as Oklahoma, if not more.

I don't know the answers to any of that...I've just heard a lot of talk
about it....I do know that fracking has been around for a long time.
I was in high school, working in the oil patch and listening to some
older guys talking about sand fracking, etc. The disposal wells make
more sense, though....

Just a thought...Texas has so much room for BS below ground before it starts
to "burp" they just haven't filled it yet....kinda goes with the above ground aspect,
too.....

2013 felt the most earthquakes in state history, experts say (http://newsok.com/2013-felt-the-most-earthquakes-in-state-history-experts-say/article/3934396)

The state shook more times than ever with 222 earthquakes in 2013 that registered as a 2.5-magnitude quake or more, a record for Oklahoma, said Austin Holland, who is a seismologist who moved to the state to study quakes at the Oklahoma Geological Survey in 2009.

So far in 2014, there have been 63 earthquakes that were 2.5-magnitude or greater already, Holland said.

Ah, so Texas-sized arrogance extends to below the surface too, eh? :D We can frack all we want with no earthquakes unlike lesser states, haw haw
