I got a chance to see a little. The dogs I like never win, so I always wonder how they judge them (I'm an avid dog owner, but know nothing about the AKC). Anyway, there were some good looking dogs this year.

Usually stop down a watch it for a bit, but it's never something I can watch the whole way thru. Partial to the hound group so if they are judging those, then I'll watch and then if I can try and catch the final best in show segment.

The lab continues to move further and further from the breed standard and as long as the breed judges keep sending the short leg, short muzzle, overweight dogs to the group instead of sending a more moderate dog up, the group judges aren't going to reward them with a win. I'm a field guy but have a big interest in the breed. This years best of breed winner has a lot of people pretty upset and others hoping that maybe all the negative attention will bring with it a tipping point in the breed.

Here are a couple of pics. One is of a lab from the late 60's. He is still one of the top winning Labs in history. The black female that won Best of Breed at Westminster is the other pic. The written standard for the breed has basically not changed since then.
