She was 85, right? Like yermom, I wasn't aware she was still around. I'm gonna take my 83 yr old Dad out to eat tonight...he'll be glum about this. Shirley Temple was always one of his faves.

With child labor laws now in effect, her 59 film legacy is the equivalent of 47 straight.

Shirley was a bit before my time, but I remember Sid Caesar well, from the early days of TV. He always cracked me up in the early-mid '50's. Sid Caesar, Milton Berle and Red Skelton all had great comedy shows.

Yep, clean comedy - Lucille Ball, Jackie Gleason - those were the days.

I read that Shirley was perfect with her lines come rehearsal time. Even helping adults when they faltered on THEIR lines! She earned her stardom.

I usually wake up too early and find myself watching old movies on TCM around 4:30 a.m. Those actresses were hot! Checked out Norma Shearer recently. Wowzer. Shirley struck while the iron was hot for her in childhood. She just didn't have the appeal when she hit the teens. Too bad. Or maybe good in her case. She was a "success" all of her life.

Well, I actually broke the news to my Dad during our meal that evening. He took it in stride, and talked about how much she meant to America during the Depression...said Miss Temple married a bad fellow, but later was able to marry a decent man. Dad is/was proud of her.
