Better yet, tops in the BigXII. Watched ESPNU The Experts
earlier and one of the "experts" Stinchcomb (sp?) said he was
looking forward to 2014 and Oklahoma returning to elite status...

Looks good to me, amazing how things usually do settle our over the long run. We have some really important guys to replace, but none are real super stars (as in sure fire day 1 draft picks). If the young talent can step up, '14 looks good to get into the top 4, however "top 4" gets defined.

so, stanford loses to #5 team (ranked 4) and drops 7 spots...bama loses to #10 team (ranked 3) and drops 4 spots..

msu BEAT #4 team...only has 1 loss and isn't #2....auburn loses TWO games and still is number 2. Didn't OU drop below #2 after several of our losses?

Not saying OU should be higher...well maybe over sc...

1 fsu
2 msu
3 auburn
4 missouri
5 OU
after that I don't GAS

Not that I think we're the 4th best team in the country, but LOL @ SC and Mizzou. They played in the equivalent of the old Big XII north. I guess SC can hang their hats on the Clemson win.

And while I realize Auburn was 13 seconds away from #1, their string of luck running out should've knocked them to #3 at least. They were also one fluke play away (UGA) being also-rans in the SEC. And that doesn't count the crazy Bama ending.

Auburn shouldn't be #2.

I know the game was close, but they still lost, and should have dropped a few spots.

Oh well, none of it matters now. The important thing is where we start 2014, and as long as we're in the top 10, it's good.

And if this new committee thing works properly, it won't really matter where a team starts - just how they play. If they keep the one of the good aspects of the BCS poll, "start" doesn't happen until 5 weeks into the season.

Check out Chris Fowler's explanation to me for voting Bama 5th and OU 10th. I asked if he watched the Sugar Bowl. @cbfowler @kacaliendo I watched all season. Including UT game. You're ranked ahead if them despite getting worked over.

Here is his poll. Another ESecPN asshat. http://www.pollspeak.com/component/option,com_psreport/Itemid,3/lang,en/p,54/r,V/s,25/t1,75/t2,/v,12/w,17/

I'm the opposite. Everytime I saw SC play, I thought they were the best SEC east team. Things just didn't work out for them. Mizzou lucked out more with schedule.

Any question about ESPN being in the tank to the SEC should now be completely clear. What team loses two games in a row and drops from number 1 to number 3? Then from number 3 to number 5 (in Fowler's opinion)? Good thing they didn't lose a third game or they might have dropped all the way to 7. On top of that who does he have with him pre game as guest analyst? Nick Saban.

^This. I watched way too many of these things and the Sugar, BCS title, Orange and Rose bowl were heads above all others in terms of talent and preparedness. And if you wanted to see what a "don't want to be there" bowl looked like, the Horn/Duck contest was a textbook example.

Trivia question: who was preseason #5

Answer: Georgia. Seems they always get a high pre-season ranking, only to fall off the ladder every year.

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Oregon
4. Stanford
5. Georgia
6. South Carolina
7. Texas A&M
8. Clemson
9. Louisville
10. Florida
11. Florida State

Florida State really cashed in with that first game performance on TV.

16. Oklahoma

On gameday, they would have had to mop up the remnants of any Top 5 team on that list, had they faced the Sooners.

We were/are the best team, to end this season.

BS poll. MSU should be #2, and we beat the best SEC team, so I find it ridiculous that three of them with the same amount of losses are rated ahead of us. SC would have lost to Wisconsin if their QB hadn't gotten hurt.

Wheres that pole/thread about most overrated teams? Seems like the Sooners met and exceeded expectations this year based on our preseason ranking and postseason ranking.

I also encourage everyone to go to Chris Fowler's page and click the "bad" box(in a previous post above). I like Fowler and he has Oklahoma ties but his voting stinks of ESPiN dooshery.

I agree. A 1 loss team should be in front of a two loss team all of the time. I would even go as far as to say Louisville should be in front of them.

In 2011, Rose Bowl Champ, TCU passed Oregon for the #2 spot. However, TCU was undefeated, as was Auburn. That may be the difference.

Actually this was the last year the AP mattered. The AP was still important because it could still give a split NC even after withdrawing from the BCS, but now with a playoff, and a selection committee the AP, and all other polls are now completely, and totally worthless. By the way the selection committee will be putting out there own polls though they won't start til like late Oct.

That actually didn't happen that often. In the 16 years that the BCS decided the championship the AP only ranked the losing team 2nd on 7 occasions.

1998 Florida State was ranked 4th

1999 Virginia Tech was ranked 2nd

2000 FSU fell to 5th

2001 Nebraska was 8th

2002 Miami was ranked 2nd.

2003 Oklahoma was 3rd. (Split title that year with USC being 1st in the AP and LSU winning the BCS)

2004 Oklahoma fell to 3rd

2005 They did give USC 2nd.

2006 Ohio State did get 2nd

2007 Ohio State fell to 5th

2008 Oklahoma fell to 5th

2009 Texas was 2nd

2010 Oregon fell to 3rd

2011 LSU was ranked 2nd

2012 Notre Dame fell to 4th

2013 Auburn stayed 2nd
