View Full Version : ARE ALL 'BAMA FANS THIS DAMNED ARROGANT?????

Posted on my Facebook timeline yesterday that I was seriously proud of the Sooners after the whuppin' they laid on the vaunted Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl. Didn't slam the 'Bama folks at all, but got the following response from one Tide fan I happened to friend some time back; (shoulda known better)

"Everybody knows that Auburn shouldn't have beat Alabama in the first place. The real 'Bama team didn't even show up to play Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl because they shoulda been in the NC game. SEC is still the best conference in football, and will be next year......and the next year......and the next year......etc".

Are most 'Bama fans so damned rediculously stupid they can't even give a little credit to Oklahoma for the win? 'Bama flat got their butt whuped on both sides of the bowl. Are most 'Bama fans like this, so damned arrogant they can't even admit when they got beat fair and square?

He's a good college passer but does he have an NFL arm? His velocity doesn't even get close to TK's.

This is why it irks me that some OU fans are claiming it was a beat down or that we whipped them or something. It gives credence to detractors that Bama didn't show up or didn't want to be there. But the fact is, it was a close and hard fought game and Bama used all their will and weapons to try to win it. It was a 1 score game for most of the 2nd half and they could have tied the game with 1 big play. And they had 550 yards of offense along with many big plays to account for that lofty total. If OUr guys would have allowed 1 more of those big plays at a critical time or made the big mistake down the stretch, it could have resulted in OT or worse. But we *didn't* allow that critical play and we *didn't* make the big mistake down the stretch. In summary, OUr guys were clutch and performed when the light was brightest. To say it was a butt whipping' diminishes what OUr guys did on the big stage and gives those Bama fans a slimy backdoor excuse about motivation that clearly wasn't true.

That's a good point, but, I base my conjecture on one more year to
fine tune his skills...he's a big kid and he'll spend time with QB gurus
and get better...but rilly, Heisman winner and NC, too...he's first round

local radio idiot went through the unmotivated, injuries and refs were against us excuses. Then proceeded to award 3 of the 4 spots next year to LSU, Auburn and Alabama. Said 4th spot would be SEC but FSU might find a way. Completely dismissed OU because this was the year and OU loses everybody.

Had to laugh. Ignorance is bliss till you have to back it up. OUr future is bright. It was no whippin' but I never felt uncomfortable after partway through Q1.

OU's done a lot of big-game choking, so the perception is going to stay for a while. But I really don't care; I can see the difference in this team, and it looks an awful lot the Bob Stoops early years. We are well positioned to make the top 4, and I don't see this staff and team pulling a choke job if we get there.

Yep. They clearly showed up to play, and we clearly played better than we had all year, with an offensive gameplan that we hadn't used all year, and executed it well. Is Bama so good that they just don't try and still get over 500 yards of offense? They outgained us by several yards. We just won the turnover battle, took advantage of the turnovers, and were able to move the ball when we had to. I doubt we beat them 2-3 times if we played them 10 times, but we beat them when it counted and we should enjoy the win and hope that it carries over to next year.

I can think of one big bowl game that we choked in and that was the USC game.

If you consider the bowl game against WVU as a big game then that would be #2.

Boise State? They had a decent team and OU wasn't a great team. Peterson wasn't 100%, the offensive line was mediocre, and we were deficient at the QB position.

LSU? Nope just a loss in a national title game. Not a choke.

Florida? Nope. We played pretty well that night and battled Florida almost to the end. We finally wore down and Tebow was able to the close the game out.

jkjsooner
1/8/2014, 11:34 AM
Speaking of all of this, I saw someone say that Stoops finally found a bowl game he can win. Seriously? We've won 4 of the last 5 bowl games and the last two BCS games we've been in.

Alabama Season AVG.
Total Yards 448.9
Passing Yards 236.9
Rushing Yards 212.0
Points Scored 38.8

Sugar Bowl
Total Yards 516
Passing Yards 387
Rushing Yards 129 (Much lower because McCarron was sacked 7 times)
Points Scored 31

I don't necessarily agree. These are just fans, not players, that are saying things like that. I say it to SEC people I know because I know it ticks them off. For instance, there is an LSU fan I know that keeps insisting that the 2003/4 Sugar was a blowout. They won by 7 points and it took a 4th down bad pass in the redzone with less than 2 minutes left for them to pull off the win. Then the same idiot also insists that we suffered an SEC beatdown in 2008/9 NC against Florida. We lost by 10. So the fact that we beat Alabama by 14 means, in their terms, an epic obliteration for the ages. Karma.

Remarks from an OU alum who attended the Sugar Bowl:

Our alumni tour bus was one of the early ones to return to Marriott after game. We noticed an ambulance and a police car ( maybe other emergency vehicle/s) in front of hotel with lights flashing. I've been to NOLA often, so just thought it was escort for buses or NOLA being NOLA. Lobby was starting to get crowded, so we asked.this lady sitting by herself at a table near the front if we could join her at her table. She said certainly. We began to talk--all of us excited about the game. After initial pleasantries, she said you won't believe what just happened! She said "There was a fight!". Two men, pushing, shoving, knocked table over. Began slugging until one man (an Alabama fan) was on floor out cold. Authorities arrived quickly and took the other combatant--a Sooner-- into custody. She said it began when the Sooner said in a very loud voice into the lobby crowd, mixed with both Sooner and Bama fans: "WELL, I DON't HEAR ANY 'SEC, SEC' NOW!" The Bama fan jumped up and said: " I'LL SAY IT!"! And, then it began...

Kansas fans think filling up a 18,000 seat arena is the same as filling up a 85,000 seat stadium. They really aren't very good at math. Kansas finally got a football coach that took them to bowl games, and they did not know how to handle temperments. Now, they are right back where they started. Ummm....not that I have seen.

I have seen comments all over the internet echoing the OP's sediments for the Bama fan.

There was a story on nbcsports just a few days ago. It was written with quotes from OU's Julian Wilson. He was answering what happened late in the game when the defenders where jumping on each other after they had to call a timeout.

A Bama fan got on there trying to be cordial. He/she commented about how OU won the game and that there should be no excuses. However, that person goes on to say that the Bama team didn't show up and play their best game because they wanted a BCS title.

The entire Crimson Tide nation feels that way.

My response to that:

"If that Bama team didn't show up to play, why is it that Bama still had over 500 yards of offense? Why was it that the Crimson Tide players and coaches were disappointed in losing the game? Why is it that Saban taped motivational quotes to the players locker after the game when they got back to Bama?"

Yeah, Bama wanted to win that game. Bama may have bought into their own hype and thought that OU was going to walk in there and just roll over, but Bama was very disappointed they didnt win. And because of that, they damn sure showed up to play!

OU was just better that game!
