KU was SO EFFING STUPID to fire him. Granted, his appearance isn't a very good image, but he did wonders with the jayhawk program, and brought them a lot of $$$ I would bet.

There's not a cornstalk safe in Iowa. Welcome back big man.

Heh, that's funny, but, ISU is young, willing to learn, crazy about
their head coach, who is not afraid to try/do new things. The Clones
surprise someone almost every year that they're not supposed to, so-o-o
just might be some fun times in Ames (Lord knows they need/deserve it!).
Jus' sayin'....

I've heard that Mangino has lost about 100lbs...hope it's true.

From the most recent pictures I've seen, he found them again.

I wouldn't mind seeing Iowa State get better, and it's doubtful they'll ever be on top of the conference, so a good mid-tier team is about as much as they can expect. Regardless, I really like Paul Rhoads. After his post-game rant (after the Texas game), I thought "now that's a guy I would want to coach my kid!".

Mangino may have made a huge mistake.

There is no Golden Corral anywhere near Ames.

Welp, one within 30 min and one within 45 min, 'cept I don't
think buffets are his thing....Ames has Hickory House, a REALLY
good barbeque place, not to mention 4 or 5 bbq places in Des Moines...

I agree about Rhoads coaching my kid. More importantly, #1 recruit
in Iowa stayed with ISU after the coaching shuffle...saying that Rhoads
was who he wanted to play for. Mangino will help the squad...will they
ever be top tier, 8X, you're right, probably not, but I think they'll compete
and surprise some folks, mostly those in Iowa City...really like it when they
beat the Hawkeyes, mostly because most of the state thinks the Hawkeyes'
stuff doesn't stink (ISU passed Iowa as the largest university in the state this
past year) so that might be changing...

Sounds like an incredible business opportunity.

Dang, I was hoping to have seen the last of the Mangino fat jokes. Glad he found a gig; he could make some serious coin if he would lose the weight on Weight Watchers or that Jenny Craig for men program.

My dislike of Iowa dates back prior to Stoops becoming our HC, and it's something I haven't been able to shake...so, I love when ISU breaks their hearts. I have a soft spot for ISU football, and I think it comes from the old Big 8 days. I don't want to lose to them, but I always hope they can put together a good season. Paul Rhoads just makes me pull for them a little harder.

They fired him over those player abuse allegations, not b/c of his image. I mean, they turned around and hired Weiss after all!

I suppose so, but when you weigh over 500 lbs maybe losing a 100 don't mean much. At least he's trying.

“I don’t know my peak weight, maybe it was because I didn’t want to face it,” Mangino said. “I started working out, watching what I was eating and doing different things probably six, eight weeks before I ever checked my weight. I can tell you that having weighed in the 28th or 29th of August, I was down 127 pounds (from about a year ago).”

When ISU plays KU will it be referred to as the War of the Whales? In all seriousness I think he'll make an impact in Ames.
