Just what I was thinking! By going with shiny, doorknob brass-colored helmets and black-for-black's-sake unis, Baylor is wearing UCF's colors. The UCF band (and most of their fanbase) are dressed just like the Bears.

So many Baylor fans (granted, there isn't a ton) chalked this one up when it was announced. UCF has a lot of Florida talent, and some kids that transferred from better programs to get playing time. This isn't the same type of team we saw in UConn.

Baylor should pull this out, but it's not going to be easy...at least not for a while.

Eh, Tech beat ASU (and they were supposed to be "on fire"). KState beat Michigan pretty soundly. And, while it's not in our conference, Iowa gave LSU everything they wanted, which tells me that you can throw out the regular season in most of these games.

So many times in bowl games, it's about which team really wants to be there.

Baylor has been able to play that way all season, football officiating is becoming more like basketball officiating (wildly subjective) every season.

That the SEC officials are calling PI closer than the Big 12 officials have this year just shows how weird of a year that it is. In the past SEC officials wouldn't call PI unless you drew blood or had a compound fracture.

Oh I agree, its just that Baylor has got by with it all season. Just like Florida was used to the way the game was called (by ACC officials) and the OU receivers were used to getting PI calls all the time from the Big 12 officials. Just how they call the games varies greatly.

When you can recruit talent and hit on guys others miss on most of the time you can overcome mistakes.

Switzer's teams had a lot of that in some games with fumbles and penalties but yet were able to win most of the time. There have been plenty of Stoops teams who thought they could sleepwalk through games as well.

I think Baylor was clearly surprised by the refs in several ways. The jersey grabbing/PI was obvious. But several of those procedure calls looked *really* tightly called. They also got them for not being set long enough before the snap during hurry-up. I have to admit that when I watch many of the hurry-up teams, they do look sloppy and play loose with the procedure rules and most refs let it go.

That whole modern, high-scoring offense thing really must have thrown the SEC officials off.

I can't say they did a poor job as they seemed consistent the whole game - just different. And none of the replays revealed any blatant bad calls that I can remember.

Long drive to Waco...

That's okay...another radio news report in Dallas today said that Baylor would probably lose money on the game because they only sold 11k of their 17.5k allotment. Unused ticket from the allotments are deducted from the payout to the schools.

Hey...Drayton McLane...short on dough? Couldn't bail your school out of their Fiesta Ticket Fiasco?

They got it done during their season when we didn't (except for state orange). And we still have our BCS Bowl game to go, so... :ambivalence:

Leave it to the Big12 champions to give a mid-tier program a launch in the Fiesta Bowl. The tradition continues.

UCF was 17-point underdog in the Fiesta Bowl.

Yeah, I just like to randomly take shots at SEC offenses.
