OU was quite a bit better in 1978 than they are now. So there was less agony of defeating happening. :)

I remember those days, college football only on ABC, killer CBS lineup on Saturday evenings, Disney on NBC on Sunday after AFL football, Hee Haw, Jude and Jody furniture, and Marlin Perkins hiding in a tree three mile away while Jim Fowler tried to capture the wild tiger with his bare hands.

Yea But we were able to ANTICIPATE the thrill of Victory not suffer the agony of defeat for a month like some posters try to shove down our throats

Don't forget that the internet was terrible back in the 70's. Couldn't even get on soonerfans.com most of the time.

Don't forget those fire-blazin' prices at Mathis Brothers' furniture.

Now the son of one of the Mathis Brothers is hawking their furniture. I'm not sure how he evolved from a gerbil.

Every time I see that lead in, I cross my fingers for that
poor ski jumper, but, alas, he always falls!

In my mind, the skier at the end of the intro took a much worse fall. Watching it now, it just looks like he kinda lays down and goes off the end.

I remember when that music came on, I was going to watch...no matter what it was (sometimes it was cliff diving, other times auto racing). Good memories!

What great memories. Who could ever forget tuning in and seeing last months NASCAR race or the lumberjack competition. ABC needs to bring it back.

There was another assistant on there from time to time, dude was barefoot and would go running full speed into a swamp to wrestle a 30 foot long anaconda. Anybody recall what his name was?

Stan Brock. Years later Jim Fowler denied he was ever told by Perkins to engage in dangerous activities while Perkins hid in a safe location, and it was created out of Johnny Carson's jokes about Wild Kingdom. However, I specifically remember watching the show and Perkins doing this repeatedly. I used to laugh with my brother whenever this happened. It was like "While Jim tries to trap the Bengal tiger, I will be observing from this tree [a mile away]."

Yup getting really sick of that crap. Alabama is a great team but they arent twice as good as any other good team in a power conference.
