As a fan of the Sooners, I'm just thankful we've had great coaches. I think it's unfair to compare Stoops with Switzer because times are different, offenses are better, and there is more parity. I think the road to a N.C. was easier back in the Big 8 days. Just my opinion though. Congrats to Bob and hope we see at least one more NC before you leave.

For Cherokeebrewer lol...wow, not sure if your comment is for me..probably not because I said "glad he's our coach"...but just because some us still think Barry is still considered the "King" we under-appreciate him? Don't think so.

If ya want to get into particulars...less NC's, less conf titles, more losses, more games scheduled per year, took longer...but I could go the other way as well...Barry had more "freedom", less ncaa intrusion/restrictions...

THEY BOTH are great...

Bob Stoops 1999-2013 158-39-0 .802 7-7 1 8
Barry Switzer 1973-1988 157-29-4 .837 8-5 3 12
Bud Wilkinson 1947-1963 145-29-4 .826 6-2 3 14

Bob has done a great job at OU but he needs to go on another run to pass up Barry or Bud.

Barry and Bud have him on NC, CC, Bowl record and Win%

Bob just plays more games a season and has racked up wins. Bob is still #3.

10.8 wins a year. We all suffered thru the 90s and we've had the pleasure of being discussed nationally since 2000. There hasn't been another team over the last 15 that's been so well respected. Glad to be a Sooner.

I appreciate what stoop has done, certainly, no question. He does rub some people the wrong way with his attitude and stubborn replies but good God, I'll take an "off year" any day, considering the circumstances. Florida is 4·7 with a loss at home to Georgia southern today. Why oh why couldn't muschamp have stuck it out as the coach in waiting at texass?

The ONE and only ONE issue I had with it all today, is the announcers acted like Stoops built the Oklahoma dynasty...yes, he brought it back after a few bad years...but the dynasty was established a long time ago.

All the props in the world to Coach Stoops for this milestone with the University of Oklahoma. It's been a great run and I'm sure we'll continue to see more in the coming years.

Jeep Heard the sideline reporter ask Bob after the game what it was like to Eclipse his "MENTOR" . The King was never his Mentor . Idiots.

Bob will set a win Record that will prolly NEVER be beat, Kinda Like the 47 Streak!

I caught that too.
If he does have a mentor it would more likely be Spurrier or Snyder....maybe Fry. Of course his Dad might be the number 1 choice

Congratulations to Bob and your program. I mean that sincerely. He's caught a lot of flack(unfairly, I might add) for not winning the big one in a while but at least he got you there to play for it several times which is a huge accomplishment in and of itself and I don't think he's done yet. With his age I think he could end up being the Bobby Bowden of his generation, in terms of longevity and NC's(I definitely think he'll at least match if not exceed Daddy Bowden's 2). You guys are fortunate to have him.

Don't know if you guys have seen this, but here's the video the OU athletic department put together for Bob:

It's other coaches congratulating Bob. Gary Pinkel, The Pirate, Kevin Brown and Nick Saban are among them. Pretty Cool.

'93 with Charlie Ward at QB. They lost to Holtz's ND team that year, so might have been a split poll (pole).

FSU was the AP national champ in '93 and '99. So yes, Bowden won 2 legitimate NC's.

I was thinking yesterday about how many schools are having such a great run right now in terms of coaching. Briles HAS to be the best in Baylor history. No question about Snyder at K State. Like Bob, Saban has some tall shoulders to measure up to at Bama, but there is debate about whether he is the best they've ever had. Maybe even Gundy for OSU. Hell, if we break it down to value brought to the program, you could even throw Mack on the list. He's certainly my favorite Texas HC. :encouragement:
