That little dude is nasty! I thought Jalen got a little perturbed in the 1st half when TT had his forward progress stopped and then they held him upright and he got the snot knocked out of him. (just got thru watching it back on SS-overtime). Personally I thought they should've got an unnecessary roughness penalty on that play. However I did like the way he responded and instead of jawing with the refs he just got back up and beat their DBs, and also beat them with some good legal blocking
With Millard now out, and with HCBS saying in his presser that he really didn't know the status of F. Shannon , we're going to need more guys to step up with that attitude . BTW, I didn't know that Saunders had an eye injury and that's the reason he wasn't in on that last drive, but that's what they said on SS-OT.

Yeah he was hurt not long after Millard went down. I noticed at the end of the game his eye was swollen almost shut.

For no bigger than he is, he's a blocking fool. Go back a week & take a look at Shepard's TD on that screen against KU. He took out 3 guys on that play, one of them twice.

It was a great play & all, but the one drawback that I see is that it doesn't look like he learned his lesson from the West Virginia game. Greg Pruitt couldn't have done a better loaf of bread imitation. Tuck that thing away, Scuba!

So what do we have here. A well designed play to keep their defense off balance. Great execution by Bester to avoid a tackler who got in the pitch lane. A good decision by Bester to run the ball when the pass wasn't there. Great vision by Bester to cut back. Good blocking downfield to get Bester to the end zone. And what's the take away from this?

A chance to get in a dig on the OC. Your glass pegged at half full?

TT defended it well. Don't know if that was just a coincidence or if we tipped our hat with that play since we ran it last week. The predictability of the OC is relevant. I was calling what the play would be and I have zero defensive coordinator ability or experience. But yeah, great play by Bester to make something from nothing.

Hard to say they defended it well when it results in a TD. Yes, they took away the primary target but that left too much running room for Bester. It wasn't the same play as last week because this was supposed to be a throw back to the QB. So now we have 2 variants of the play that will cause all our remaining opponents to burn practice time due to 1 play that they may not even see. Since TT obviously did burn practice time on it, there is no way to gauge how it helped us on other plays they couldn't rehearse. These little things can make a difference.

That play was in no danger of being a negative play. The only way it ended negatively is if Bester threw the ball to Bell.

If you think the DL that busted through was what caused it to be blown up, then you didn't watch it closely.

That DL was about 7-10 yards from Bester when he got the ball and was about 3-4 yards from blowing up the play.

It was a brilliant call at a brilliant time. TTU had the momentum.

And no TYU didn't have it well defended. The LB was about 6 yards away from Bell but in the passing lane. That is why Bester decided to keep it.

Bell can hardly throw it. Hardly run it. So let see if he can catch it. Brilliant. Besters bailed heupels *** out. That play is a microcosm of his pisspoor playcalling. This team should be undefeated if we would just pound the ball. But chicks dig high scoring offenses and trick plays. I guess you do too.

Okay then. 525 yards offense split almost evenly between run and pass. Over 34 min. possession time. 1 turnover that had nothing to do with play calling. And as far as high scoring offenses goes, you do realize we needed at least 31 to win the game and we trailed in the 2nd half at one point. And you pick a play that scored a TD to complain about the call? If you just said "I hate Heupel" you'd look much less like an idiot, but I think that ship has sailed.

Why in hell are people complaining about a play that was a touchdown? Like was said, over 500 yards of offense, half run and half pass, long throws, trick plays, run it down their throats, all against a defense that was highly ranked (a little overrated obviously) and some of you are bitchin'???

Having played the game, I can tell that there were many signs of good coaching on that play, especially the blocking down field. That's a sign of coaches preaching and preaching and preaching, until they've finally converted the flock.

how can heupel be coaching up a team when he's in the booth eating twinkies? in my post i praised bester's athletic ability for the bailout. my issue isnt with lack of motivation. my issue is why call a double reverse possible throw to bell in the first place. the running was working just fine. is this huepel's idea of mixing things up? i give him credit this game. he finally committed to the run, which set up a few playaction passes, then much more running and the offense has a respectable day.

I didn't say that I saw that play coming, though I can see why you interpreted it that way since I wasn't very specific. I was randomly calling plays throughout the game. The reverse I didn't see coming until after it was snapped. Before they flipped Bester the ball, I figured it was a reverse because I saw him running back to the LOS like everybody else did.

And the play did get blown up. Bester couldn't throw it so he had to run it, and he made something out of nothing. Most guys are gonna eat it there for a loss or minimal gain. Great play by Bester.

Great play be Bester.

Of course everyone sees the a WR reversing - that's not the issue. The issue is if the D is in a position to react or does it throw them off. And many teams reverse WRs as just a decoy to see how the D reacts because over-reaction can be a mistake as well. It's a very safe call if you trust the player, in this case Bester. It's a smart thing to throw in a few plays where the upside is a big gainer or score and the downside is mostly just a wasted play. Just like any incomplete pass or zero gain run is a wasted play. Bester could pass if its open, run to salvage a few yards or since he's outside the pocket - throw it away. Obviously, if it's run too often the upside goes away, so it's only good once a game.

I really am having a hard time seeing the complaint here. Like I said last week, I liked the call even if it didn't work. Now if Bester had looked nervous the first time or the timing was tenuous/dangerous, I would agree it would be dumb to run it again. But in both cases Bester looks calm and collected, so the risk appears minimal. This is a creative way to get a talented athlete who can pass or run into space that everyone seemed to want in a dual threat QB.

I want them to run this when our QB is either TK or KT.

clean the sand out girlfriend. you're right it was a brilliant call. just what they needed. the only thing that would work. this is why he makes the big bucks. yes, not forcing it in makes it and even better call. who needs to continue running the ball when busted trick plays go for touchdowns. town smack? the guy lives in fort worth and insulted me.
You really shouldn't be drinking so early in the day.
He asked if you are a troll. Pretty fair, imo...
And where are you to be throwing town smack around? He insulted you?

FYI

one handoff = end around
two handoffs = reverse
three handoffs = double-reverse (almost never seen)

I saw one in the pokey state game earlier that day. It got dropped for about a 20 yard loss since the guy ran right into the guys who were pursuing the reverse. Had the reverse guy held onto it, it would have been a TD.

If you were sharp you'd bitch about the obvious QB draw plays but instead you're crying about two plays that have netted 12 points.
No wonder you're a big time coach.
And you'd better checkout the culture in Central Arky. It's rich!

So... finally getting to watch the playback.

That play and Saunders blocking... amazing. If you watch Saunders, after the first block and he's running downfield, he tries to get Bester's attention to come back his way, so he could hit the guy again (which he did anyway).

LOL!

Eureka Springs is home to some world renowned artists. There is also some highly acclaimed architecture in the state.

Now if only I didn't have to make that barefoot mule ride into town to go to the libery to get on the interwebs. At least I have my straw hat to keep the sun off my face and my corncob pipe to gimme a tobacki buzz.

I said it when I saw it the first time and after watching it several times..Bester was never going to throw that ball in the first place..Looked like to me Bell running down field was nothing more than a decoy..Just my opinion though.

Bell was just looking for somebody to block.

Yeah the kid he blocked twice was loafing the second time, which amazes me because with hustle he probably hits Bester from behind before scoring. Instead, he quits and gets jacked.
Beautiful!
