Taken as a whole, that would look really good for OU if not for the rushing defense. I'd take those offensive numbers if we were top 5 nationally in stopping the run, too.

No question the run defense is the weak link of the defense (although, it's not terrible).

I went back and looked at the KU game, and learned a surprising fact:

First Quarter
KU Rushing Offense: 136 yard
KU Total Offense: 146 yards

Second, Third and Fourth Quater
KU Rushing Offense: 49 yards
KU Total Offense: 55 yards

I re-watched the first quarter, and 90% of KU's rushing success was due to Dominique Alexander missing his fit. The good news is he corrected that (and we made some changes on the line). The rest of the game, Alexander was MUCH better in his positioning.

KU wasn't doing anything special, we just looked really disinterested the first quarter.

Passing offense 97th nationally? Ouch!

Yeah, that one hurt. But, I don't mind that so much since the rushing offense is 17th. I just hope Huepel embraces the fact that we are a running team, and calls plays accordingly. He seemed to do a better job of that in the KU game.

True. But I am a greedy son of a gun and want to be top ten in the run and pass.

Oh, I'm with ya.

Would love to see our passing offense from the past few years, with this year's running game.

So Baylor has a defense too? Great.

Apparently, but I don't think the starters have played much in the second half (wait, that's not encouraging either...).

Not saying those teams don't have a good run defense. But in the cases of Baylor, Tech, and Sheephumper U your run defense numbers will always look better when you get out to a quick lead of 2+ touch downs forcing teams to throw a little bit more.

And with half the Big 12 in the top 3rd of the nation in total defense it's a cryin' shame that nobody plays D in this conference ;)

Wait, so maybe Stoops was on to something with his recent SEC comments. Nah, he's clueless. ;)

Oh the irony in one league having what? 2 returning starting QB's out of 10 and another league having all but what? 2 returning starting QB's? amazing how those things seem to work out most of the time.

KU is a terrible team. Against decent teams it wont be as simple as telling Alexander to line up correctly and all problems are solved. There is no amount of lining up or changes in the line that would have changed the Texas outcome for example.

KU is a terrible team, but when something as simple as a position correction completely shuts down an offense, there's more to it than it just being a bad KU team.

There are many things that led to the Texas loss, playing better defensively is just one of them.

In spite of some problems in the running game, our defense is clearly better than last year and seems to be pretty good. The fact we are near the top of the Big 12 says something, but don't make too much out of it, since the Big 12 is down this year... and we haven't played Baylor or Tech yet.

You can have a pretty good defense and get lit up by a really good offense. Just ask Clemson. Even really good defenses can give up a lot of points to a really good offense. Just ask Alabama.
