I am slowly starting to agree with all of the naysayers. We stand around and wait for a play call. We let 10 seconds tick off the clock when we are under 40 seconds. We have 4th and 2 and can't get a play off before the play clock expires. We can't complete passes to wide open wide receivers. We can't stop the run between the tackles.

We have some real issues. Poor QB play, bad run defense, coaching mistakes, poor clock management, head-scratching play calling...

I am going to hope and pray we get it together, or the next couple of weeks will be ugly.

Dude, defense is about making adjustments. There is always this critical point mid-season when the other teams stop scheming your scheme and scheme your personnel. What you saw in the first half was the first blocking scheme that attacked personnel weaknesses. We then countered by changing personnel that the scheme isn't as successful with and stopped them on 2 straight series. This next week we'll figure out exactly what they were doing to the DL and then hammer the kids with it until either they play better against it or we replace them.

We had one average DT in Phillips. We tried to hide this by sliding to a 3-4 so that we wouldn't have below average guys on the field. When he went down, we ended up with below average guys out there at 1 DE spot and 1 DT spot.

Nelson was playing out of his mind. I'm shocked at how much he elevated his game from JR to SR year.

I think you're right to an extent; I would argue that, at least for me, I let my expectations get away from me based on our performance in the first few games of the season. I was nervous about the D we would field but pleasantly surprised with the results. I think we did find some real players, but we (I) let some early success fool me into thinking the defensive monster was coming back. Not yet.
