The ACC is a crappy offensive conference. I figured BV would have some degree of success there because there is a big gap between the recruits Clemson gets and the ones the rest of the conference (except for FSU, VT, and sometimes UM) get. Their offenses are also more akin to Big 10 offenses from the 70s and 80s.

Clemson has played one ranked team all year and gave up 35 points and over 500 yards total offense.

His defenses handle poor offenses but get taken to school against good ones.

FSU will get over 500 yards and over 40 points on Clemson.

If not, I'll be man enough to come back and say I was wrong. But I don't anticipate coming back.

Clemson just better hope they have a Landry Jones on hand and can score more points than their D is about to give up.

Mike Stoops has tremendously upgraded our defensive back play and personnel. I fully expect him to do the same thing with the DL and LBs. BTW, who was responsible for recruiting those 2 areas in the past? My understanding is BV and Jackie Shipp.

I admittedly was too tired to watch this game. Soooo... I guess I'll just remember Brent V as the coach who gave the moving speech after Austin Box's death, and who was willing to co-D-coordinate with Mike Stoops and went out recruiting with him till Clemp came calling, and who really really wanted to get a head coaching job somewhere but was never offered.

Poor Brent V. He's a second fiddle, but he's really trying hard and isn't unlikeable.

Mike's doing a pretty darn good job given the shambles he was left with. And he would be doing a great job if OU wouldn't have lost their best DT and LB this season. OU hasn't had a national award winner on defense since Mike Stoops left. We'll probably see a Jim Thorpe Award winner within the next few years, of course, what we really need to see is a Butkus or Lombardi Award winner.

Don't know why, but BV's defenses can't stop any offense that is any good. They gave up a TD on the 2nd play from scrimage for FSU.

The stats were kinda funny though.

1. Clemson coughed up the ball at their own 30 on the first play of the game
2. FSU has 70 yard drive for a field goal
3. Clemson coughs up the ball for a scoop and score
4. 70 yard TD pass
5. Interception on the FSU 38 (resulted in a punt)
6. 80 yard drive for a FG

It was just typical bend but don't break with the one over the top pass.

Yep it even had the offense spotting TDs and short fields via turnovers.

Seriously, the first half defense wasn't that bad except for the corner falling down on that one long TD pass. Outside of that one play, FSU was forced to dink and dunk up the field for FGs.
