After 3 weeks of play, here's the numbers:

Rushing Offense
2. Oklahoma (15) 217 ypg

This number doesn't seem right. OU got 300 in each of the first two games. Their average has to be higher than 217.

Correct, OU is averaging 271.7 rushing yards per game (15th in the nation) and 218.7 passing yards per game (76th in the nation) through three games.

Doh....dyslexia.

Corrected it. Thanks!

Baylor looks good. But how good are they?

They have played absolute crap their first three weeks.

They are about to come down a lot in the next few weeks.

There is absolutely no way to know what Baylor is all about based on who they've played. They get ULM this week (which may give us some idea), but looking at their schedule, they could very well be 7-0 when the Sooners go to Waco for the Thursday night game.

If we had Bell at QB playing at last week's level, we would have scored half a hundred+ on ULM. (I know, if if if...).

Possibly, but I think ULM plays Baylor closer than they played us. They almost beat them last year (I know that has no bearing on this year), and I'm not sold on Baylor's defense. If our defense (which even in last year's state was better than Baylor) held ULM in check, I suspect Baylor's defense (which has to be better than last year, right?!) will give up a fair amount of yards and points.

I can see a 49-21 type of game.

Bryce Petty is very accurate on the deep ball, but they one thing he hasn't seen and won't see until later in the season is how he handles pressure. After several games of getting very comfortable in the pocket, he could be getting set up for a very rude awakening. Petty also gives up the mobility at the QB position that Baylor had with RG3 and Nick Florence.

Baylor's offense is legit, but when facing competent defenses last season (TCU, Iowa St. and Oklahoma), they had their lowest scoring outputs of the season and from at least what we know so far, OU's defense is much improved this season due to better and faster personnel overall and a better scheme.

We'll see about Baylor's defense. They haven't played any competent offenses yet.

I'm confident we have the best O-Line in the conference, and we're very balanced. If Petty is consistently pressured, we'll just run it. Petty isn't a one-man band. As for last year, Petty wasn't the QB last year.

And our defense has been playing well since last November. We haven't played any competent offenses?? UCLA wasn't competent? We've improved even from the bowl game last year. The only thing that concerns me is our pass-defense which is, admittedly, weaker than I'd like to see it. Having said all of that, it shouldn't be a problem so long as we can keep outscoring...shootouts are fine by me as long as we come out on top in the end.

It's amazing to me that our offensive output so far has been dismissed. Most Div I teams couldn't put up those numbers against their own practice squads....or air for that matter. And while we've been blowing out opponents that we're supposed to blow out, some teams ranked ahead of us at various points have struggled or flat out last against teams not as good or equal to our non-conf opponents.

If Baylor puts up big numbers in the next two weeks, then we can talk about them being legit. Until then, I'm not going to get excited about wins over Buffalo and Wofford.

However, they have done exactly what they should have done so far.

Did you get excited over your win against perennial powerhouse Tulsa?

Sure, but we're sooner fans, Tulsa is an in-state game, and Tulsa >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Buffalo or Wofford. Tulsa has proven itself to be legit in recent years and was a favorite to win their FBS conference this year (and might still be). Bit of a difference.

To be fair, Tulsa would probably destroy Wofford and Buffalo. Well, maybe not destroy, but they would beat them.

No argument about your O-line. A top tier group indeed.

As for the defense, first (and you already know this), last year means nothing as it relates to this year. I remember a team in Austin crowing about how they manhandled Oregon State. Um, yeah, about that...

Anyway, I do believe Baylor's defense is better, just not sure how much better.

I don't think anyone is "dismissing" the Baylor offense. It's been mentioned in this thread that Baylor did exactly what it was supposed to do. But, much like last year's Oklahoma State pounding of Savannah State, it's not front page news.

If I claim that I am the "Neighborhood boxing champion", with a 2-0 record, that sounds great. If you look a little closer, and realize that I beat up two kids in my neighborhood, and one of them has downs syndrome, it's less than impressive. My boxing style may have been flawless, but it wasn't like I was facing Mohammad Ali.

I think most fans did, but not because of the victory (expected). Because of the QB play and how that brightens future prospect.
