This article is actually about financial crap, but the more interesting feature, I thought, were the "population pyramid" graphics toward the bottom of the page. If you look at it from the perspective of the old folks depending on the young folks to carry the load, you can see how the future could be difficult in the US, Japan etc.
The under-developed countries are the only ones with what looks like a "natural" pyramid. You can imagine what these pyramids would have looked like all over the world until the last century's medical advances and population worries can around.
I'd never thought much about this until about 15 years ago when I read a story predicting big trouble for Europe due to low birth rates. It really clicked when the last recession hit Europe. Unfortunately, the European population pyramids are not in this piece.
