Bob Stoops appreciated Blake Bell:

"It is fair to say we led the league last year in third down conversions and red zone offense. That part of the package has been pretty consistent and successful for us.," Stoops said. "It's something that I would envision us still having."

I suspect we'll see more of Bell than people are expecting right now. First, running the ball is likely to result in the need for more rest for our QB. Secondly, with Bell and, later, Thompson, Heuple has two excellent options to go with if he needs to sit Knight for a series or two.
Finally, although Bob has never been big on platooning QBs, he has done so with other position players and, as he's shown with his assistants during the off-season, the past does not always rule the present or future.

Badger, that is the reason I appreciate Blake Bell also. He did what he was ask to do. I just hope he stays and we use him some way. Like as a run back in the back field at the same time as Trey Millard, one blocking for the other. That would add an additional passing option.

I think you might be on to something. Just line all 3 of them up and every snap would be a surprise. I guess you could call it the nontuple option offense.

I was thinking the other night (pun intended) that you could probably make a pretty cool formation with 2 QBs about shotgun depth with a FB about a yard behind them and in the middle.
Snap to either side or have one slide up and take a snap under center, the FB is the opening option or blocks, the off QB is the second option or a decoy and then you could roll out, drop and throw or read to the QB run.
Much merriment!

I'm tired of hearing that Blake doesn't have an arm. Here's hoping that today puts any doubt to rest. Give him the chance to prove himself. Sooners with 300 yards on the ground and at least 200 via Bell's arm...How sweet would that be?

Don't get me wrong. I was happy to see the freshman get his chance. But Bell is just more mature as it has shown the first 3 times OU ha had the ball.

It leaves me scratching my head. What did the coaching staff see in practice that would have led them to believe TK was the better choice?

Thanks Blake and not just for Saturday's performance. Thanks for not giving up, stepping up every time
coach has asked you too and most of all for keeping it classy. Good kid - good football player. We are lucky to have him as much for the intangibles as his ability on the field.

Blake sure improved from last year. Maybe it was the limited space in the red-zone, but I was worried about his passing. TK must have been electric in practice. Don't you love it when a kid sticks it out and finally gets his due? Bell played second fiddle to LJ for years, gets passed up by a squirrely freshman, and when he finally starts, he lights it up. Maybe TK will do the same in a couple of years.

That made my balls tingle.

Glad they finally let Blake do what he was brought here to do, and we don't seem hell bent on getting him killed with the Bell Dozier package.

When you look at what we all saw in the spring scrimmage, the whole decision making process is not so hard to understand. Bell is the most mature of the three (with KT a close second) and he's obviously uber-talented. With KT and TK (I like doing that), you get the old Joe Washington smoke-through-a-keyhole feeling everytime they run with the ball. That's hard to ignore.

I'm really happy with where are with the three QB's right now and it's never a bad idea to have guys who really can step right in and play on the sidelines. The last few years, we've lost, in my opinion, some edge by being too worried that playing hard might get guys dinged up.

First start on the road and against a big name program. 22-30 passing +200 yds (2 TD's), added 59 rushing and no turnovers. I don't see how we could ask for more...

The announcer voiced something that I had said before. He said Bell, in the face of oncoming pressure, is not afraid in the pocket.
I had said before that when you are that big maybe you are not as afraid to take a hit. Doesn't hurt as much.
BB took a sack or two, but it wasn't because he was ducking and hiding, he was looking downfield until he went down.
