John McCain suggested that one benefit of moving away from $1 bills and over to coins would be improved tips for strippers. That's probably the last constituency over which McCain still has a lock.

If they want to do this, they should just do it.
Dollar coins. Crank up the two dollar bill printing.
I don't have a problem with it.

It will be a challenge for the girls to hold a bunch of coins in those g-strings though.

But if anyone can do it, the patriotic pole dancers of America could!

is there really much use for coins smaller than a quarter?

i wouldn't miss the smaller coins or dollar bills. i'm not sure why we use them if they cost us money

What would I toss in the Jar at the end of the day? then ever couple of years spend several hours rolling that crap up.

Just got back from Canada - $1 & $2 coins, $5 bill -- the argument I've seen is that the coins last a lot longer, so wind up saving the govt.

The worst thing about traveling to Europe is the stupid coins. I don't want to get rid of the $1...it folds up nicely.

I'm not sure about all coins smaller than a quarter but they really should get rid of the penny and round all transactions to the closest nickel. We have never had a coin that is worth as little (in purchasing power) as the penny is today. A nickel today is worth the same as a penny in 1972.

The production costs for the penny is greater than a cent.

In addition, just think of how much more efficient transactions could be if we weren't having to constantly count pennies. Studies have shown that the labor cost to count a penny is greater than the penny itself.

But your idea about only keeping the quarter isn't so radical. When we got rid of smaller denominations and left the penny, the penny had a purchasing power approximately equal to the quarter today...

As a side note, if I had a business that dealt with a lot of manual transactions, I might consider rounding every price to the dollar (or possible quarter) and including tax in the amount so that the transactions could be completed quickly and easily. Plus, you could use it as a marketing tool. And, by the way, do you think $1.99 is still fooling anyone? Everyone I know sees that and thinks $2.00.

Read the article about it. He was asked about this specifically and he made a humorous remark, "Then I hope that they could obtain larger denominations." Hardly scandalous...

My view on McCain stands regardless. I honor his service, but his time has passed. He needs to move on.

I got it and had a little chuckle. Hey, if they allowed me to put the coin in the slot, I'd be popping those $1 coins in there all day long.

I might have agreed with the idea, but for the fact McCain is for it, which is an almost sure sign that it is in fact a terrible idea.
