Did anyone else go through a Hawaiian shirt phase? I was looking through old photobucket pics and was reminded of the fact that for a couple of years, I got really into Hawaiian shirts. I don't know what the **** I was thinking....:shudder:

I have quite a few Tommy Bahama, Toes on the nose, and Kahala's...nothing too bright or gaudy but I ordered a kahala shirt (shaping room) just yesterday....

Well, it beats wearing your bowling shirt with patches for Most Improved Bowler and for 2nd Place.

Actually that sounds pretty good.

I convinced by son to buy a couple of Charlie Harper (2.5 men) shirts. They look a bit like bowling shirts w/o the patches.
But I must admit I was proud when I son came home from college this year and I noticed he had a Beatles and a Doors t-shirt in his wardrobe. Made me feel like all the money spent on college was worth it.

I always wanted a patch for picking up the 7-10 split -- because I knew nobody else would have one.

I had one I wore a bunch back in the late 70s/early 80s. Wasn't in style, though.
I think I wore it because of the ridiculous fads of everyone wearing bib overalls, surgical scrubs, or Izods.
I did know a girl that looked pretty good in the overalls with a tube top, though.

I bought about 5 Tommy Bahama shirts (2004ish?), which is about 4-5 too many.

One of my closets is full of 'em.
Some cheep, some expensive. 1 was hand tailored in Fiji in a few hours while I shopped at the marketplace.
For all kine occasions, including two that are Christmassy that I wear with the bottom half of a Santa Suit for an Aloha Santa thing I do in December.
2 are Sooner themed. 1 is Packers, 1 is Badgers.
Several are for weddings, funerals, dress up. Most are for casual, bar things.
I've probably got 30 or so now. I gave away many to homeless folks on the North Shore.
I luv 'em, and had a few before I made the move here from Normal. Cotton, roomy, colorful. Just what I like in a shirt.

Sadly, I owned a couple.
However, if you want to feel better, take a look at a group of college age kids now...there will be no shortage of dumb fashion **** for them to relive in the future.

What's all the hate on Hawaiian shirts? Comfortable. Provides the correct amount of nakedness covering/warmth/sun shielding/wind breaking for use in warm weather. Light hearted in a silly but not churlish way. Probably not good to wear to court, particularly if charged with a crime of violence or sexual misconduct. But otherwise? Acceptable outerwear.
And they allow the proper amount of your patent leather halter to show.

Wore 'em when I lived on O'ahu. Still have 'em somewhere.
Aloha Friday is a bizwear tradition there. Looked weird over my CPO garb tho...

And yet, a dorky hawaiian shirt is the antithesis of ghey.

In the aftermath of that post, I have to ask your wine suggestions. You are clearly a man of elevated taste and sensibility.

On second thought, most of my ill-fitting TB shirts didn't have hawaiian prints on them. Only two, that I can remember. Gave them away as they really have no fit to them at all. It seems they are made for former offensive linemen.
Tommy Bahama business plan:
1. Cut out large square, make shirt to fit the square
2. Over Charge for them.
the silk was nice qual tho...
