Working on the railroad in Wyoming. Dang.

Ft. Laramie, wide open spaces, big sky, lonesome pines, and low humidity. Time to saddle up.

Wyoming has been an adventure. Most of my work is between Casper and Greybull, and there isn't much to look at. Except we do go through the Wind River Canyon. And there is a spot north of Thermoplis where you can look left and see the Wind River Mountains, and right you can see the Bighorns. There was still snow on them in June.

I've been with the railroad for a year and a half now as a Conductor. Hope I never drive a truck again.

A cardinals nesting habits are relatively simple. Like a lot of birds the female builds the nest and the male stands guard against predators and other males. The male also feeds her during the time of nesting. The female makes the nest in dense shrubs up to 15 feet off the ground, out of sharp twigs, grasses, and leaves. They attempt two sets of eggs per season and they both hunt and feed the young after they hatch. The young usually are ready to leave the nest a startling 9 to 15 days after hatching.

They live a long time and are great to have around in the winter when their color really stands out.

Plucky litte creatures, imagine being draped in bright red in teh wild where everything wants to eat you, and sitting in a tree singing "**** you" to all of them.

Yup he has earned my respect. When he figured out how to get thru the Nets and Bang his merry little head against the window I pretty much just let him have it after that.

Even the crows are a treat that time of year. You know if a crow flies over you when you're in a stand, without diverting its course, you got yourself hid pretty darn well!

Yeah but if you tell that to the engineer he will remind you that he is in charge of the engines. It's really joint responsibility; if something bad happens the entire crew will go down.

I'm not allowed to run the train
The whistle I can't blow
I'm not allowed to say how fast
The railroad train can go
I'm not allowed to shoot off steam
Nor can I clang the bell
But let the dammed train jump the track
And see who catches hell!
