Its primary job will be to get the ball to the line of scrimmage so that Big 12 offenses can move even faster (not kidding)

The Big 12 experimented with eight officials in the Stillwater spring game — Anderson himself was the alternate ref — and it seemed to help. At times that Saturday, the Cowboys averaged only seven seconds between the end of the previous play and the snap of the next.

I think it's a good idea. Especially if the center actually snaps the ball once set.

If the concept is to speed things up, the application would probably actually slow things down.

SEC will add one more official but only for Alabama games. To listen to Saban whine that his D lineman are not getting ample rest in the huddle when playing a hurryup offense.
