GREAT pick up for the Sooners!

Mead, who is 6'5", chose OU over Arkansas, Clemson, California, Georgia Tech, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, UTSA and Washington State. He's a big, tall kid (to add to our other WR commit, Dallis Todd who is 6'5" 210lbs).

Jay Norvell has brought in another great class at the WR position, and he's not done yet.

Why does scout have this kid as a TE? Should I be concerned for their well-being?

Welp, just guessing, but 6'5" frames at 210 or so can usually
handle 30-50 pounds more before losing any speed. Think
about this...6'5" 265# and 4.6 or so in the 40 would be a
DC's nightmare to match up against....jus sayin...

I read some good things about him last spring. High ceiling type.

He's played both in high school. OU recruited him as a WR though.

Look at the size OU already has committed for WR/TE:

Mead: 6'5" 178
Todd: 6'5" 210
Meier: 6'6" 220

Good luck Big XII CBs of the future...

But would have to be a slot tight end since his background is WR and lacks the essential blocking skills to play on the line.

Now Mead could definitely learn blocking skills but would not be a ready now TE. Also, if you couple these talll guys in this class with Cavil from the last class, we got sone height.

If Mead, Todd and Meier all do the nutrition/weight room right and end up 250ish or better we'll be able to have like 3 Megatrons on one side of the field.

That would likely create some butt sweat for the dbs over there.

Hell, just let them lead block and have Rip lead Bell around the corner. Conservatively 1300 lbs of angry meat headed at 1 cb, 1 safety and maybe a pursuing linebacker. I'm thinking that are some more 'Kenny Stills' style clearing blocks in our future.

Mead looks more like a potential 220 WR than a TE.
I know it's possible but he looks sleeker than a bulk up type.

Agreed. I'm not sure his frame could hold 250 pounds. Meier can definitely bulk up, and Todd is never going to be a TE.

As mentioned above, if you throw Cavil in the mix (who is another 6'5" guy), that could really tax a secondary.

Now, if Taylor McNamara and Sam Grant can develop, we have something to get really excited about on that side of ball for the next few years.

Maybe he can recruit some LBers for us.

So how long until he plays a game on the o-line?
