Alamo Bowl promoted to top Big 12 contest
The Associated Press

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The Alamo Bowl will get the first pick from the Big 12 under a new six-year deal with the Pac-12 announced Friday.
It makes the Alamo Bowl the marquee game for the Big 12 outside the new four-team College Football Playoff that begins next year. The Cotton Bowl had previously been the signature game for Big 12 teams that didn't make the Bowl Championship Series.
The Alamo Bowl will also continue to get first dibs from the Pac-12 outside the playoff.
Started in 1993, the Alamo Bowl is on a streak of exciting postseason games. Texas rallied to beat Oregon State last year, while two seasons ago, Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III led Baylor to victory in a 67-56 thriller over Washington.

We won't be in this since we'll be in that four team playoff every year. :)

Its gotten tiring seeing the 2nd best Big 12 team get thumped by the SEC SEC year after year.

Well, now the Pac12 will tire of being thumped by the Big12!

they didn't in the old holiday bowl. our 3 or 4 team (with BCS representation sometimes 2) beat their 2 a lot.

anyway, i don't like this move much. not sure why. love that puffpiece "streak of exciting games" blurb, UT beavers.....Baylor....who could remember either game? i didn't.

Since I live in San Antonio now I sort of kind of give a Schmidt.

Where does this leave the Cotton Bowl? Who do they get?

My guess is that Cotton Bowl has been elevated to national championship rotation (that playoff thingie that we're all talking about).

Let me try my OU assistant punning: The first Big 12 pick goes to a Schmidddy bowl

How can this not be a good thing?

Sugar Bowl now Big 12/SEC Champions Bowl, Cotton in the Championship rotation, Alamo first pick thereafter. All reasonable driving distances.

I'm sorry but the Fiesta Bowl sucks (except the destination).

I don't think anyone is going to miss the Fiesta bowl.

Great news to me - love going to San Antonio. I already do the Dallas trip once a year and refuse to waste my $$ in Jerryworld watching a game on the jumbotron instead of my big screen at home.

Seems weird for a Big 12 team to not be in the Cotton Bowl even though the tradition wasn't really that old.

Not relevant to this thread but I really hope the Red River Warivalry never switches stadiums.
