One of our former scouts from when I was first involved in my troop was KIA in Afghanistan. Has a wife and kids.

I think it was his third tour.

War sucks!

Every Sunday morning, This Week on ABC lists the names, ranks
and home towns of the fallen that the Pentagon releases. It is
heart wrenching, nearly all under the age of 30....so sorry about
your bud...

Okie:

I was wrong it was his 6th tour. He was with the 5th Special Forces Group out of Campbell. I only knew him, some of my friends knew him well.

By all accounts a really super person, very kind.

RIP soldier.

I'm as proud of my service as I can be, but I will not encourage my son or daughter to serve. I simply do not trust the government anymore, especially with the lives of my children. I feel like Anthony Hopkins in Legends of the Fall, old enough to have figured out the game and don't want to play it anymore.

I did find this story.. Don't know if it is your guy.

We had a couple of guys shot and killed from our base while I was over there. I was in the process of responding when we were stopped. You get real paranoid.

Sorry to hear that, DD.

Just a horrible feeling to hear news like that...prayers for the family, etc.

Prayers to this young man and his family. And prayers for safe return of all the young men and women still over there.

one needs no further proof of how short an attention span this country has than to look at how those still serving in dangerous places have been largely forgotten about except by family and friends.

Sorry, DD, yes war sucks, not trying to justify this one but sometimes it's needed. Not because of US but THEM.

Prayers go out to your friend and his family. I'd venture to say most guys going over that many times, are the really good guys. Sad~

6th tour huh?
Some of Yall go ahead and keep whining about the size of the Military. If we had sufficient troop numbers there wouldnt be so many deployments ,Over an Over.
Regardless of what you think of that war, we Need a Larger Military IMHO.

My son joined the Army while he was in college...a deferred enlistment
for officer training. The recruiter sold him a bill of goods, said he wouldn't
be leading patrols, would only have to give orders to enlisted guys, would
be perfectly safe, even in a combat zone. I got word of that crap and went
ballistic! What a crock of ****! Since it was a deferred enlistment, there
was a provision to opt out of it and his mom and I persuaded him to use it.
This was W's/Cheney's made up BS and being fought for the wrong reasons.
The recruiter tried all kinds of underhanded tricks to get him to retract the
letter, he called my home and talked about how other kids went ahead with
their enlistment, called my son all sorts of names. He wasn't aware at first
that he was talking to me. I read the creep the riot act and told him one more
time and I was going to his CO. SOB just wanted to fill a quota...

Dayum, any officer that gives orders to do stuff he doesn't want to do is just
begging for a frag in the latrine, or an accidental firearm discharge on patrol
in a firefight.

Even after the post I just made, increased size makes sense but I can't
stand out and out lying to impressionable kids....

While I completely agree with your thinking, I don't think this is anywhere near the norm. Being a member of JSOC is the reason he was there so many times. Very sad news.

I don't know about you, but I was told almost 6 years ago that "all of our troops would be coming home". Someone spoke too soon. You'd almost think someone that said that was just trying to win a popularity contest or something similar.

Heh. Just stands to reason that if ya have a BIG job to do and a small work force to that Job. Folks gonna have to put in more time to get it done. The larger the force the Less time MOST individuals will have to put in.

That kinda goes along with my argument of covert ops in
places like Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Bosnia, Somalia, Yemen
and most any other place with these tinpots surface. Ya
can blame it on the local rebels in EVERY case, solve the
frickin problem and keep the world order. The problem here
is no one has the brass to do that sort of thing...yeah, yeah,
I know all the moral issues, but my argument is that morality
went out the window when these bums got into power and
extreme prejudice is all they understand. Jus sayin....

It's been a few years but I dealt with the "Allah Akbar" stuff
a couple of times when I was still in the AF but, when I lived
in FT Collins, CO there was a BIG group that in the US advocated
killing anyone, I mean anyone, just because they didn't believe.
I'm firmly convinced that Islam has more violent extremists than
any other group. I don't trust them, I advocate expulsion, rock
solid monitoring every step they take and if they hiccup, toss em.
I know all about due process and such, but, really...Member now,
Ima REAL Dem. So there!!!
