Well, he left OU to go back to Shockerville (HOURS after being hired at OU), but he did eventually return, didn't he?

And I still remember hearing about every time they replaced a pitcher in that final game, OU's baseball PA system played "Cuz you had a bad day..."

So, happy trails, Coach Gene. For several hours, you were OU's head baseball coach. Now our second choice is leading us to a Super Regional.

At least they fired him with 1 more year left on his contract. That means he gets 365 straight days of vacation while still getting paid! What a deal!

They already told him his contract wouldn't be renewed and tried to get him to announce his retirement so they could hire a new coach and focus on recruiting. Apparently Gene's ego wouldn't accept that so they fired him effective immediately.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I really, REALLY wish I could see the fark thread again after this recent development and us being awesome in baseball again.

Anyone know SF.com archives better than me to find the dearly departed fark thread?

You could see this coming for a long time. They haven't been a part of the national scene for a long time. I think the AD is making a huge mistake by keeping Brent Kemnitz. He is an ***. A lot of coaches who might be interested, will not be, because of them having to keep BK on the staff.
