That's a piece from the Requiem for a Dream score (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Requiem_for_a_Dream_%28soundtrack%29), and yes it gets used a lot. Though I think this is specifically the re-orchestration that was done for the Lord of the Rings: Two Towers trailer.
