Update at 9:25 p.m.: Family members and friends tell The Dallas Morning News that Bryant Bassey’s brother is former NFL player Eric Bassey.
Update at 8:25 p.m.: Police have arrested Bryant Bassey, 34, on capital murder charges.
Police believe Bassey killed his parents, Joy, 69 and Bernard, 61.
The younger Bassey’s bond has been set at $1 million.
Original post at 5:28 p.m.: Garland police are investigating the deaths of a man and woman found Tuesday morning at an apartment complex for seniors.
Garland police spokesman Joe Harn says that at 9 a.m., officers were called on a welfare check to the complex on Bluebonnet Circle. The caller had been trying to reach the pair but wasn’t able to reach them.
Harn said officers entered the residence and found the couple dead inside. Harn said they’re believed to be a married couple in their 60s.
Harn said there are “signs of trauma on both victims,” but until the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office rules on the cause of death, police won’t say how they died. It could be hours, if not longer, before there’s a cause of death.
Police are treating the case as a double homicide for now.
Harn said police will release further information within the hour.
