The school will join the new league, which is expected to be renamed soon, in all sports for the 2014-15 school year. TheGolden Hurricane (http://www.ky3.com/topic/sports/college-sports/tulsa-golden-hurricane-ORSPT00000356.topic) is leaving Conference USA (http://www.ky3.com/topic/sports/college-sports/conference-usa-ORSPT00000345.topic).

"In common with our member schools, Tulsa brings a rich academic profile, outstanding and storied athletic programs, and a devoted fan base."

Tulsa, the most successful football member of Conference USA, joins a league that has signed a television contract with ESPN (http://www.ky3.com/topic/sports/espn-%28tv-network%29-HOC792.topic) and will stage a football championship game after Navy joins as a football-only member in 2015.

"This is a great day for TU (http://www.ky3.com/topic/sports/college-sports/tulane-green-wave-ORSPT00000355.topic) athletics," university president Steadman Upham said at a news conference

I just can't help but roll my eyes at how retarded these conferences are anymore. 12 teams in the BIG 10 and they call themselves... the BIG 10. 10 teams in the BIG 12 and they call themselves the BIG 12. Hey... you know what makes perfect sense? Let's put Tulsa in the BIG EAST. Because nothing says east coast quite like Tulsa, Oklahoma. West Virginia to a midlands conference? Sure, why not?!?

Looks like Conference USA imploded. Maybe Big 12 could appropriate the name.

This is a great move for Tulsa IMHO. If they had joined the Big XII they would always be chasing us or Aggie. This way they join a decent Basketball Conference and a Conference that has a competitive Football lineup of Schools. I think it's the right thing for TU. Is TU right for the Big East? Time will tell.

One thing that had bothered me about TU was this...,

Back in 7th Grade, I had a Football Coach that was from TU's Baseball Team that won the Missouri Valley Conference in 1968 (I think it was). Coach Klar was his name and he got me excited about playing sports then. Whether it was Football, basketball, baseball, it didnt matter. He could get kids fired up and inspire them to get out there everyday after School. IMO the guy was a winner.

Anyway....lots of folks were upset when Tulsa put an end to its baseball program back then. Maybe joining the Big East will inspire them to use either Old Drillers Stadium at the Tulsa Fairgrounds or try and figure a way to share the new ballpark Downtown or both to get their Baseball Program going again.

If you think that's bad, just remember why the Big East had room for Tulsa in the first place; Boise State & San Diego State were accepted & set to join the B.E. before bailing on them.

I know that Cincy, South Florida and UConn are begging for a new home, but if they can't find one, it's a great move for Tulsa and the rest of the ex-C-USA guys that suddenly have a step up in competition and name opponents.

When Boyzee came to Tulsa a few years ago for a non-conference game, it was huge (even though the game was weeknight, cold and rainy). Hell, Tulsa had a chance to win that game up till the closing minutes.

I would definitely return to Chappy Stadium for the likes of UConn, Cindy or South Florida. Of course, I'd prefer OU in town first :)

I just had a really silly thought and BECAUSE OFFSEASON i'm gonna share it with you all:

Tulsa did not join Conference USA. Nor did Central Florida, Memphis, Houston, Tulane, etc.

UConn, Cincy and South Florida joined Conference USA.

Those three big boy schools left a BCS conference and joined a mid-major.

Tee hee.

The main benefit for TU is that they will probably double the amount they receive on TV contracts. Expenses will go up as well and they can stay cozy with SMU, Rice, UH and Tulane.

Big East ceased being a BCS conference last year.

This is a horrible move for TU. The revenue gain will be highly outweighed by the expenses. I don't know whatever option there is out there for them, though. They were in a horrible situation.

They will never bring back baseball. They made a stupid decision to let it go. Some of the big money boosters tried to bring it back a few years ago, but the worthless AD, Judy McLoud, put the nix on it. She was absolutely horrible for the Tulsa athletic program.

Big East gets its new name
Updated Apr 3, 2013 7:23 PM ET

NEW YORK (AP)

The current Big East will be called the American Athletic Conference starting next season.

The conference announced the decision Wednesday after university presidents approved the new moniker earlier in the day.

The Big East football schools were in need of a new name after they agreed to let seven basketball schools break away from the conference to start a new league this summer to be called the Big East.

The American Athletic Conference will have 10 members in its first season: Rutgers, Louisville, Connecticut, South Florida, Cincinnati, Central Florida, Memphis, Houston, SMU and Temple.

Rutgers and Louisville are likely leaving after 2013 and are set to be replaced by Tulane, East Carolina and Tulsa in 2014. Navy is schedule to join in 2015.
