I surfed into it, and caught about the last half of it. He was going after the high-life folks in government in DC, and none of them wanted him to film their largess. One jerkwad politician he was interviewing always tried to deflect John's questions, insinuations and accusations, and claim the lobbyists, the banks, the malls, etc. etc. etc., (all folks in the private sector, where money comes voluntarily) were those abusing the public. Of course, we know who is bilking the taxpayer, and it's the politicians, with their hands in the coffers of tax money.

While a big part the rest of the country is struggling, the growth in our economy and personal prosperity is in the public sector, especially in and around D. C. Of course, this should not be a surprise to anyone.

I thought you hated libertarians and 3rd partiers....which Stossel certainly is.

Was that the show that focused on how the DC area is becoming so separated from the rest of the country in terms of wealth and privilege?

Talks about how the rest of the country is pinching pennies while in DC the luxury goods, real estate, exotic cars, expensive restaurants, etc are booming? Paints and pretty elitist view of both parties there.

both parties are to blame...they are in bed with each other. I understand the pubs have the rep to be the high rollers but the dems are just as bad....not at all for "the people". It's funny to see the dems on here say all that about the pubs when they are just as guilty.

As this bit from The Washington Post shows, currently Dems and Repubs are basically identical in terms of wealth in Washington:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/capitol-assets/congressional-wealth-risk-matrix/

What I found interesting about one of the graphs was that Repubs were doing better than Dem prior to the recession. When it hit the Repubs took a big hit, while Dems actually climbed the ladder. As the recession ends, the Repubs start climbing again, while the Dems level off.

A lot can be explained by the Repubs holding stocks, which fell, then lately have again climbed. But what explains the Dems worth rising during the midst of the recession?

However, at least in 2011, 7 of the 10 wealthiest were Dems:

"well, if we don't finish this bill this week, we are out of session for God knows how long, so this is important!"

At one time (pretty long ago) Washington was a place people would go to perform a service for their country, usually at the expense or detriment of their own careers or businesses.

Now it is simply the ultimate way to forward your career, and a job for which these guys will sacrifice anything to keep.

Whatever hope we have for proper leadership is in the republicans, although the good ones are less effeective as time goes by. Witness the '12 election, where our tyrant pres. was reelected.

(hey, with the Media on your side, why not)If you think that's constructive, kudos for niceness, I guess.

This path we are on is not sustainable,(does anyone disagree?) so that means that the end is predictable, which means our refusal to elect leaders that will do something about it means that we, the United States of America, is populated with a majority of folks that are either really stupid, apathetic or disinterested, only caring about today and what they can do do make themselves happy at the moment. So please, don't act surprised when this thing craters, it's inevitable.

I wonder if the secular progressives will turn down a free meal in the soup lines at the local church? Or will they refuse because that cross out in front is offensive?

The end is not predictable. This nation has hundreds of trillions of dollars in natural resources alone. The combined wealth of all Americans is 45 trillion dollars. Most of our debt is owed to ourselves. We need to make changes but we are not the PIGS.

Show me one country where austerity has worked.

John Stossel's approach seems a lot like Michael Moore movies, with in-your-face questions to people who look uncomfortable in front of the cameras.

Look I like John Stossel and have no overall issues with him. Some of his work is very good. The problem that I have has to do with the fact that you cannot for one moment think outside of your bubble. Lots of reporters ask legit questions....even the liberal reporters.

Lots of reporters ask legit questions....even the liberal reporters.MM is a socialist, with a socialist agenda, and is good at ginning up the socialist elements. If the MSM was doing its job, he would be repudiated and marginalized. Nobody I know of would claim that Moore has never asked a legitimate question. You should do better than to jump to such a conclusion. That you have not is not surprising, either.

Since you believe that Paul Krugman is a Saint, your response is quite predictable. There are a lot of economists that would disagree with you DD.

When did I say a damn thing about Krugman?

Krugman and his Keynesian economic views, is not concerned about the debt either, he says that we should spend more. You are not concerned, so I just put you in the same camp as Krugman, people that are not concerned with the 17 Trillion in debt and 300 billion in interest payments a year. I say it's a problem, and this is not a good track to be on.

Austerity? I don't see any proposals from Congress that do anything but reduce the amount of increases. Only in DC can a reduction is the percent of the growth of Government be referred to as a "cut". The Federal government has grown exponentially for years and years, so I would like to know the last time "austerity" was used.

No serious questions asked. No concern over the continued failures of socialism. He either hopes to slide stuff by us all, or he is oblivious to the realities. Either way, bad for the country, and a prosperous, viable economy.

The Federal Government has it's place, but it has grown so fast and so large, that it is no longer accountable to the people. Excesses, duplication, fraud, waste and abuse by the billions, and some could care less. Why the Feds get a pass while others don't is a big mystery to me. If the type (leftists) that worship at the Government altar would apply the same standards to the Feds as they do in their personal lives, then I doubt we would have the mess we have to day, at least to the degree we see today.

The local plumber that charges them for 30 minutes too much time( $50.00) for the leaking plumbing bill is met with a howl of outrage and protest, but the same guy that pays his Federal income taxes, where 20% is waste and fraud totaling thousands on his tax bill doesn't say a thing. And he been paying it for decades.

DC is DC because we let it be DC, either by voting the same goofs in year after year, or not voting against the same goofs year after year and re-electing the offenders.
