McCain Praising Obama Backs Revenue Compromise on Budget
Sunday, 24 Mar 2013 09:14 AM

Senator John McCain said Republicans should compromise and increase tax revenue as part of a “long-term grand bargain” on the budget, and praised President Barack Obama for talking to senators across the aisle.

“I’m open — have always been open — to closing loopholes, eliminating special deals for special interests,” McCain, of Arizona, said in an interview on “Political Capital With Al Hunt,” airing this weekend on Bloomberg Television. “If you call that ‘raising revenues,’ I’ve been guilty all my political career” of trying to cut special-interest loopholes.

Despite the protestations by the yellow-dog Republicans on the board this is exactly why I no longer consider myself a Republican and will continue to "throw my vote away" on independent/libertarian candidates...or not vote at all.

I am very proud to say that I did not vote for John McCain in 2008. I didn't vote for Obama, either. At least with Obama you know he has some principles he is going to stand behind. McCain is a pure political hack and opportunist and his style of leadership is why the Republican Party needs to just go away and allow a party with some principles to take its place.

I want every tax write off closed. Including the mortgage interest write off. So there. And then I want our national debt paid off. And then I want the tax rate lowered, a lot. Along the way, I'd also like to see the government either take over health care or get out of it completely.
And **** Wall Street bankers, too.
It's Monday.

Tax revenue was just increased 3 months ago... Back to Clinton levels for some. I was led to believe from the left that would fix everything...

Sapp, don't know of any on the left that said just reverting
to Clinton rates would solve everything. Do remember that
increased revenue, closing special interest loopholes, sensible
spending cuts, cleansing Medicare/Medicaid of fraud, waste and
abuse, gov't hiring freeze and a WPA type program for infrastructure
repair/rebuild would go a long, long way toward reducing the
deficit and balancing the budget.

THA, McCain is old, and foolish sometimes, but until Paul or Rubio
or someone else comes along with good, level headed thinking then
McCain will continue to be the de facto party leader, imo...

If you are proposing a flat tax then I agree with you but i bet Maccain would scream if banks and the companies who supplied the military lost their tax breaks.

Nope it wasn't the only thing.. Fighting 2 wars was the other thing always mentioned. 1 war is done and the other winding down. I heard it for darn near a decade.. Wars and Bush tax cuts caused the deficit.

And why the Dems will continue to win elections...There is absolutely no difference in the party's leadership. It is time some one stands up for the Constitution, State's Rights and mimimalistic government, back towards Defense, Interstate Commerce and the protector of Liberty... Not the crap we have now...

McCain is a very strange guy, and has been for quite a while. For me at least, there's no telling what he will do or say next. One day he will offer a good idea or position that is conservative and sensible, then shortly afterwards take a goofy liberal stance on something or other. He's all over the place, and nowadays, far more often wrong than correct. He's not up for re-election til '16, i believe.

I adore a flat tax, without any deductions.

And yes, McCain would scream.

And Vet, if it's all your old lady's got in her medicine cabinet when you wake up with a mother of a hangover, then I heartily recommend Midol. Goddamn elixir of the gods. Pour a quart of room temp water down your neck then take it with a nice cold hard cider for best effect.

Welp, the wars and Bush's tax cuts didn't cause the deficit all by
their lonesome but they sure as all get out helped!

I won't go where some would about McCain's goofiness...but Arizona will
keep sending him back to Washington as long as he wants to keep going.

Well, if the Bush tax cuts were the culprit then both dems and pubs have managed to avoid their reinstatement for almost 4 years. Even Obama only sought to reinstate less than 25% of them.

(The d candidates don't ever come up for air, like McCain occasionally does) He got elected as R rep in the primary in '10, due to raising 21 million dollars and effectively destroying his conservative opposition, and that coupled with many R's believing that he WAS INDEED effective in destroying his conservative opposition, so they voted for McCain. As bad as McCain is, we are probably better off by not having a COMPLETE Leftist as one of our senators.
