If you had to choose between getting a leveling kit or a spray in bed liner, which would you choose?

The wife thinks the leveling kit is stupid, and although I want a bedliner, I am rarely the frivolous spending type, and kinda want the leveling kit.

Do you have aftermarket wheels? If so, leveling kit.

Dropping the back or raising the front?

Depends on what you want...form or function...do you haul a bunch of chit that will scar up the bed?

You can't screw it up. I promise. There are several brands that offer the roll-on bedliner, it's very easy. You just need a Saturday afternoon and some cold beer. Much cheaper than having someone else do it.

Then, you can do both!

You can do both for a total of ~$600-650. Tell the spousal unit to stifle and go get your truck done. And do NOT attempt to put in your own bedliner. Horror stories...

We do Bullet liners ourselves, and contract some out to Line X. Both are very good products. Auto Accessories Unlimited or Line X will do the leveling kit for around $300 I think. You do have to realign the front end though (they'll both do it).

And make sure you get some type of warranty on the alignment if possible. Had my front end leveled a few months ago. Rolled into Jefferson City, MO a couple of weeks ago and noticed the passenger front tire was chopped badly. Called the company in OKC and they had me take it to a Goodyear place for re-alignment and two new front tires charged to them. They'll get my business again.

I gotta be the skinflint. Do neither, and your next set of tires is already about paid for.

Not fun though.

For a friggin' hillbilly. You don't care if you got liner material all over the back window, the wheels, and the cab.

I'm telling you, it's tough to keep that bedliner **** from migrating to every inch of clean paint your truck has. **** is nasty.

From the sound of the advice you are getting in this thread.....I'd consider what the shadetrees are telling you and then....

Spend all the money on wheels and tires and the lift. Sell the wheels and tires you have on EBAY and go have a line-x put in. I like Line-x unless you are really going to carry heavy stuff. Then I might suggest a thick rubber cargo mat which you could even put in after the Line-X. If you aren't going really use the bed much, I'd wait awhile and spend some money on the step bars that you can bolt on yourself for pretty cheap if you don't have running boards. I loved having them with the lift. It's easier to get in the truck.

Then save up and get the Line-X.

If your Wife still is unhappy you just need to explain why us guys have to have this stuff. Relate it to something she spends money on that you don't think she needs.

Good point. It does take a certain level on non-moron to make sure the **** doesn't end up on everything. I may assume too much out of people.

When I can pay a guy who knows WTF he is doing $300 and get a lifetime warranty it's all win.

I quit doing a lot of the little jobs I used to have to do myself. I'm at a point in life where I can afford to hire folks that know their ****. This saves me tons of grief, broken tools/parts, busted knuckles, and saves me from saying a ton of swear words. Kitchen counters? Carpet/floors? Paint the house? Siding? Gutters? Windows? Blinds? Electrical work? Hire somebody.

If it's **** I know then I'll do it myself. Cars/tractors/equipment/welding/farming/etc. I know. Properly prepping a bed and spraying a bedliner ain't in my reportoire.

Dont get me wrong bro. I agree with you. Ive been talking about restoring my 60 T-bird for years. All Ive done myself so far is Rebuild the engine and have the Upholstery done.
I made a deal the other day with a friend who Him and his wife restore The Muscle Fords/ Mustang/cougars
Ill be paying a lot more than it would cost ME to do the thing But It will GET done this way
Back when I did the 2 or 3 that I did I needed to save that 200 bucks so I did it. Now Not so much

It's been a long time since I wasn't able to pay someone to do something I didn't want to do, but sometimes, I do **** like that as a change of pace. I've been working on a '97 Jeep Wrangler I've had since, well, '97. It's sat in the garage the better part of the last decade, and in the last year, I've decided to put work into it. A big project was taking out the seats and bedlining the tub. For something like that, it was more a month (of Saturday) project, but something I could do with the boy. Since I am not worried about what the Jeep really looks like, I was okay if the liner splattered a little. Now that you have me thinking about it though, if it was my daily driver, and I wanted to keep it looking nice, I either would have paid to have it done, or it would have taken much, much longer.

But, I like yer thinkin' Dean. I manage money for a living, and when people used to tell me "I can just do it myself and save money", I would always say "You can preform your own dentistry and save money too, are you going to do that?!".

I'm probably not as mechanically inclined as you (or many others here), but sometimes, doing stuff like that with a cold beer just makes you feel a little more manly!

Zackery,When I ran my shop I did a few for friends, was it perfect? hell no. Was it"Acceptable" Hell yes. A Rhinoe Liner back then cost about 400 bucks a do it in my shop YOU buy the beer? Less than a 100.

Seriously Tho I agree with Dean. Let the Pros do that kinda **** IF you can afford it. If not? then Take yer time and Do yer best, Then live with any mistakes.

I need and want to get my windows on my truck tinted. I can buy the stuff for what 20 Bucks?
Or i can PAY some one a 150. Now? Ill pay em.

Just got line-x on my truck. Line-x in Edmond had the premium UV upgrade for an extra $50 which was quoted at $150 at other line-x places. Plus it is owned by a former Sooner.
