Our tax dollars are now too tight to keep the tours going. Still plenty of tax dollars available to head to Florida to play golf with Tiger. This is how you set priorities at The White House:

I don't think you understand the healthcare implications here. When is the last time you have seen a picture of a POTUS who can get his leg up past his waist without ending up in Bethesda Hospital? The long term implications are being overlooked. :D

Tickets for WH tours are or were free but can/could only be had by going over that morning (as in 6 a.m. to have a reasonable chance of getting one) to sign up and the numbers are limited. Then you sit on the bleachers in the park till it is your group's turn to be escorted onto the grounds. The tour consists of moving as a group through the various colored rooms (pink/blue/green).

Doesn't seem right that a building that essentially belongs to all of us is now off limits.

I'm heartbroken.

Natl Parks will be next. Sorry off limits.

I posted this in the sequestration and austerity thread. This stupid White House thing is just another high profile example of it.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinio...2df_story.html

"It’s firemen first. That’s the phrase coined in 1976 by legendary Washington Monthly editor Charlie Peters to describe the way government functionaries beat back budget cuts. Dare suggest a nick in the city budget, and the mayor immediately shuts down the firehouse. The DMV back office, stacked with nepotistic incompetents, remains intact. Shrink it and no one would notice. Sell the firetruck — the people scream and the city council falls silent about any future cuts."

And I hope Obama has an EBT card so he can keep the lights on.

The 9-11 victims received on average $1.8 million. (Wikipedia) Some of the funds came from insurance companies, but 42% of the money came directly from Congress. This is in addition to whatever life insurance they already had. A nice thing to do, of course, but what mandated these payments I don't understand.

LOL

I keep wondering how we will ever cut the budget. These cuts represent about a 1% cut. Over time we need to cut about 15 % and raise revenue. This is a typical American problem we do not want to face any pain...no cuts no new taxes.

Why people adore this lazy POS is beyond me.

I voted for him and I am pretty upset by his total lack of leadership. Someone needs to slap him up side his head and tell him to quit campaigning and start acting like he gives a chit. Maybe that is why his ratings are at 43%, We need cuts and I think we can do them over time but we need leadership and target wasteful programs, duplicate efforts and get out of Afghanistan.

I like the Speaker's response to the White House stopping tours:

"While I’m disappointed the White House has chosen to comply with sequestration by cutting public tours, I’m pleased to assure you that public tours of the United States Capitol will continue," Boehner said. "Under the leadership of the House officers and their teams, who oversee daily operations in the Capitol in consultation with the Office of the Speaker, planning for the possibility of sequestration has been underway for some time. Consequently, alternative spending reductions have been implemented within the Capitol complex to ensure public tours and other regular activities can proceed as they normally would.

"I encourage you and your family to visit the U.S. Capitol during your trip to Washington, D.C. If you haven’t already made arrangements through my office for a Capitol tour, I encourage you to do so," Boehner concluded in the letter.

Same thing has been said about every President in my life. Well, I don't remember it being said about Clinton but I'm guessing it was.

Every President has responded that it's a stressful job and to be effective you have to get away to relieve stress.

Is that why he send Michelle and those Kids away so much? to relieve Stress?

I like the Speaker's response to the White House stopping tours:

That's right guys, Obama got mad at how the game was going, so he took the ball and went home.

Boehner says, Hey, we've got a ball over here. Don't worry about that cry-baby that left.

LOL

My White House tour experience:

I was an ideal candidate for a behind-the-scenes tour: Young (and female) Republican. Thus, a leader of our local county Republican Party invited me and another high school girl to a tour with our local Congressman. While the masses lined up (as described in that linked article) with hopes of seeing a few rooms, we were led to an area beyond the velvet rope with another special, privileged group.

We got to see the big second floor area where Roosevelt's daughters rode their horses.

We got to see some tea sitting room area.

I really don't remember specifics, but even with this special tour, we didn't see places like the Oval Office or the Lincoln bedroom :)

Hell, we saw more of the queen's favorite palace over in England, where they do minimal security (they laughed at us when we were about to remove our shoes like good little American plane travelers) and give you MP3 players so you can self-guide yourself. The special flag was raised, meaning the queen was on-site, but we never saw her in person.

We did, however, see the robust armour of fat King Henry VIII :D

Do I think that we'd be missing out if they disallowed tours? No. Washington DC is filled with buildings with tons more artifacts and history than the White House. And they're far more open to the public than the White House was, specialized tour or lowly minion tour.

WHO KNEW it could get this bad!!!

"That's how bad sequestration is, folks, in Yellowstone Park. They're down to one fox! They've had to lay off all the other foxes. This one fox is having to go around, stand in front of the tourists, and be photographed multiple times. One fox, one elk, one bald eagle. That's all you get for your ticket to Yellowstone." -Mark Steyn

I saw this this morning:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/03/19/white-house-warns-easter-egg-roll-could-be-canceled/comment-page-4/

The White House said the Easter Egg roll might be canceled because of budget cuts.

I literally laughed out loud. Seriously? Really unbelievable how stupid they think the public is. I have since read that it is "probably" going to happen though. The backlash must have been huge. lol

Sorry to drag the thread up again, I just didn't want to start another one just to illustrate another example of the same, ridiculous, modus operandi, of this joke of a White House.
