So horse meat has been in the news a lot lately. OK is going to allow it and apparently its in IKEA's meatballs. So I guess the question is what is the big deal? Are you for horse meat/slaughter? Against horse meat/slaughter? Not against it but wouldnt eat it? You get the idea

I think the Oklahoma law stipulates that the meat is to be sent out of the country for consumption. I'm not against it, particularly after hearing that many old horses have had to die slow painful deaths because there was no outlet for their humane disposal.

Still wouldn't want to eat it, but wouldn't go Bob Barker toward anyone who did.

As long as Folk KNOW what they buying I DGAS. Meat is meat.
I think the big deal to most folk is they have this Noble image of the horse, Hell its an animal nothing more nothing less.
Just like Dog meat Its good if its cooked right.

And Yes if it was offered I'd prolly at least try it

I don't really have a problem with it. I don't see how horses are different from cows/sheep/pigs in terms of having more of a right not to be meat.

If you were to judge meat by what the animal eats then horsemeat is a lot cleaner than pork. I have zero issues with it and would certainly eat it if I liked it.

There are an awful lot of Horse's being mistreated now adays since there is hardly a market for em anymore. You can just about get one Given to you in most places because folks cant afford to feed em.

I dont have any issues with it either. And hell its labeling isnt that much worse than fish considering over 50% of seafood is mislabeled.

I've heard the argument that horses are smart, but pigs are smarter. And that horses are beautiful, but so are deer.

I guess I havent heard a reasonable one (to me) about why we really shouldnt eat them.

That's right friend of mine got 2 a few years ago from Craigslist. They had nice pedigrees too. Got em for the price of being able to feed them and being able to bring a trailer.

There isnt a valid reason bro. I think it comes down to the fact that thru out the centuries , The horse was the about the Only means of transportation. They became in Peoples eyes like the Family dog in away.
Too many movies about the Noble beast, "Black beauty" comes to mind.

I don't have a problem with anyone eating it. I would have a problem with a company telling me I'm eating beef when I'm eating horse.

I have no problem if people wanna eat horsemeat. I don't think I want to, and I sure don't want to be told I'm eating cow when I'm actually eating horse.

Really thin slices, broiled over a little hibachi grill at your table, dipped in a sweetened soy sauce with lemon and red pepper is absolutely delicious.
Featured dish at the Kumamoto race track dining room.
Guess they had the choice of running fast or turning up on the menu.
The losers were tasty.

I'll pass on eating racehorse, seems stringy and tough unless braised. Give me a nice, fattened, lazy Kobe Horse and I'll give it a shot.

I think the big deal is like selling someone a diamond and they find out later that it's a cubic zirconia (sp?) or just a piece of glass. You can't tell the difference unless you're a gem specialist, but there's a difference.

There might also be some personal feelers at work as well. Would you eat a dog or a cat if you had either as a pet? People may be more emotional about horses than pigs or cows or chickens if they owned them or liked riding them.

People have pigs for pets. I wouldnt eat Dogs or Cats because they are predators and predators in general (besides fish) usually have very tough and stringy meat.

Personal feelers aside, I didnt even think of all of us are complaining about meat... At least we have meat ya know?

White dog, ginger and garlic soup with a healthy dollop of red pepper paste is perfect this season of year. Plenty of yang energy, there. Very 'heaty' according to the Korean herbalists.
Encourages your body's warming power and, inevitably, puts lead in the pencil, if you know what I mean.

What I heard was this. The worry is that the Horsemeat they are finding in many of these products wasn't raised for Human Consumption. America has a problem with raising Horses for Human Consumption as we have plenty of other animals that are raised for Human Consumption.

These folks who are mixing in Horse Meat do so to try and help their bottom-line and do it without regard to any of us and the drugs that were pumped into the horses. It's called regulation and it's done in order to set a standard.

USDA isn't USDA if it's got horsemeat in it. If there is Horsemeat in it....you have been defrauded and possibly endangered. Sure you can have the attitude that it's no big deal. It's no big deal until it kills someone or makes them deathly ill for the rest of their life.

You can't fix stupid.
With some horse owners.....nice idea.....Oh! It's a lot of work and costs a lot of $$ as they get bigger.
Apparently there are many horse owners in Oklahoma that are no better than some cat owners!
I've got a neighborhood full of loose cats and squirrels.

Report on Fox Business News I think. I surf the news a lot though Turd so it could have been Fox News. These days it's hard to tell who is doing news or opinion pieces but I'm pretty sure it was FBN. They were talking about IKEA and some of the other Suppliers and the impact on their Companies and why it is such a big deal. They even talked about it being a big deal for the Countries that allow Horsemeat to be used for Human Consumption but that they also have rules regarding the meat and that certain drugs aren't allowed to be used if we are going to eat it.

Seems it was after IMUS in the Morning and I think the Mad Money guy was on with 2 other guys and it all came up there on FBN.

This isn't the exact story I saw but much of what they were talking about is in this one....just not everything. I might be able to find it though. It was like 2 days ago.

As I recall, pretty gamey and stringy. It was a little ocelot sized thing in Nigeria. Cooked up with enough pepper, palm oil and starch to make almost anything edible.
Housecat would likely be much more tender.

I don't have a problem with horse meat if it's RAISED to be consumed. Just throwing some horse meat in for filler....ummm...no. Guess that was the way I was taken the pole...philosophically...horse meat for consumption.

That's one place the Africans have us all beat. They don't limit themselves to cow, pig, chicken and put everything else off limits. Hell No!
Nutria Rats? Sure
Jungle land snail? Of course.
Giraffe? Many different ways!
Elephant? Would sir prefer the trunk or a succulent slice of rump roast?
We need to follow suite

I can see a burgeoning interest in venison, already. But we've forgotten squirrel, bunny and snake. Got a wild pig problem?: eat the bastards! I draw a line at Amarillos, er Armadillos, but some don't. alligators. useless things. But tasty! And we haven't even begun to work on the beasts of the air or water.

We got lots of animals here in America and most are unsuspecting, naive, semi-tame and easy to hunt. Get after it America! Eat more wild meat!

And put bacon on top of it. Makes anything better. (Bacon wrapped 'gator chunks on the grill are close to heaven with a little Sri-Racha/Mayonnaise dip).

I kind of took it the other way as what's the big deal with Horsemeat? Like why is this news. I think it's news because it you have 100 beef on the pkg and it's not....you are misrepresenting the product and then as an after thought....the whole "For Human Consumption and how it's raised" came up.
