I love this board, and many of its denizens. STEP is a fountain of knowledge, Badger has the best sense of humor on the interwebs, and that one guy ... JTK the stolen Rawalpindi, or some weird-arse handle ... whatever he calls himself, he seems to really know his stuff. He is another from whom I have learned a lot. But as great as this place is, I may have to stop coming here.

When I went to the Forum this morning, the ad - which is something I usually can ignore without any trouble - was for On-Line University of Texas. Or something really close to that, I changed it as soon as I could.

I just don't know who could have thought that was a good idea. Especially this early in the morning. <shudder>

When we discuss how down texas (namely vince) is, how much they suck at football/basketball/everything, google ads or whoever sf.com uses will most texas-theme ads.

Or, if your internet history has texas sites in it, youre likely going to get texas ads.

And yeah, just disable the ads if they bother you :)

Yeah - it's not like they give me a choice of ads, other than I can ban broad categories of ads like porn, gambling, whatever. They are targeted, so the ads you see are based on what you've searched for or looked at, etc. It ain't me.

hmm...I would have thought talking about Vince would generate ads for American Mensa and long-term investment firms.

I was wondering why there was an ad specifically targeted at someone that lives in Arizona the other day. I hate it when the computer is smarter than the user. :emptiness:

When I was in law school in the late 80s in Wyoming I worked part time as a wriiter for the Laramie newspaper sports section. I covered, among other things, the University women's volleyball team. They didn't even wear shorts back then. Just glorified underwear. Never made any sense from a competition standpoint, but I didn't hear many complaining.

I have to quote Elwood P. Dowd on this one: "In this world, you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant. Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me."

Or, more likely, a sort of reverse J.G. Witworth ad. Y'know, instead of giving you cash in exchange for your long term annuity, Vince could have his salary put into a program where they give him enough for tacos and pot and rent at a cheap motel. At least he wouldn't end up sleeping behind a dumpster by the age of 40.
