This thread isn't about arguing about the college career of LJ..I think there is one still on the first page if you want to do that

LJ has spent some more time with a qb guru getting ready for the NFL draft and preparing himself for the Senior Bowl..

GW has only taken on 2 QBs during his mini camp..Landry and this guy, Johnny McEntee from UCONN

Landry's release point has been an issue at times and created some WTF throws..and GW doesn't cut him any slack

This is text book here...Hips fired, elbow out front with ball still in hand..This was already pretty good but he's been getting a lot of work with delivery

I dont know if he will be an NFL success or not, I do know that I truly hope Landry gets taken in the 1st rd so he can shove it in all of the OU fans faces who never gave him a fair shot

The good thing about working out on the coast is there are former college and NFL players everywhere to help..Landry is throwing to a former UCLA tight end here

Another area he has been working on is the ablity to hit receivers in stride..There have been a lot of completions that would have garnered bigger yac or scores if the ball would have been laid out in front..

I think GW did help Landry quite a bit last spring, so it certainly won't hurt to spend some more time with the guy.

Obviously, LJ's evasiveness in the pocket was a lot better this last year than previously..But something still being worked on..GW breaks out his famous broom

So, how does it work STEP...is Landry already signed with an agent? Do the agents front them money? I know LJ's family can afford to send him, but I've always wondered how players show up to the draft in two thousand dollar suits.

8time, I am pretty sure that their agents front them the money, unless maybe they already have endorsement deals

A lot of these guys are fronted money by all kinds of places..Some banks will even front a guy. Plus as soon as they've played there last down, they are free to start collecting cash from anyone..

And I don't know who his agent is, but I would definitely bet he already has one.

One thing that I heard a lot this morning from weigh ins was how unimpressed some scouts were with his upper body physique..Obviously there is only so much muscle mass that can be gained in a few weeks, but he was worked out

And at times, he wasn't very happy about it.

I feel a little odd posting this, Landry looks smaller in the chest but bigger in the arms and shoulders to me than the other guy

We are such bad fans for doubting him. Whether him, the coaches, or the talent around him....fact is he was average. If average makes it in the NFL, color me surprised.

Collier11
1/21/2013, 10:24 PM
Landry was never average, he was a good college QB that put up huge stats because of starting for 4 years. There were times he was great and times he was average, but he was almost always good

I agree with that. He was good. And I also agree I would be happy if he suceeds in the NFL. But....that would tell me more about our coaches than it would about LJ.

Even though I never wanted to admit it, I pretty much knew after 2 years that he would never lead us to a Natl title unless we had a Great team around him. He could never carry the burden, he needs to go to a situation in the NFL where he doesnt have to

I've always thought that to be the case, but didn't know.

When I first started in the finance industry, Merrill Lynch had the NFL pension plan. So, I became really versed in the details. All in all, it was pretty ****ty (It's changed a lot since then, but I don't know if it's any better). Anyway, any time a broker had an NFL player as a client, they would send in a completed financial planning form. At the end of the form, they asked the player what their expected sources of income was going to be at retirement. "Rapper/Musician" was the overwhelming answer.

Sorry to derail the thread...just had that memory.

I'm right there with you. However, I think he could do well in the NFL. If Trent Dilfer can win a Super Bowl, why not LJ?!

He still needs to improve on it, but LJs decision making was better from his Jr to Sr year

I forgot this one..Part of the camp was media training..Shelly Smith from ESPN is sitting in a doing a mock presser where LJ has to answer some tough questions..Shelly is coaching him through it.

Yeah, b/c there haven't been a lot of qb's who have won championships with average teams around them.

So at what point in the NFL combine does he go into the ministry?

VA Sooner

With the right team and time to develop, he would do OK... but would not last in a situation where he's called to start right from the beginning... like RG3, Luck, Wilson, etc.

It won't tell you much at all. The guy he reminds me the most of is Kyle Orton. I think he was the QB that Tiller kept having to bench after his interception binges.

I disagree with a lot of you LJ haters. He was a good quarterback. Perhaps not great but definitely good. He had the misfortune of playing at a time when the rest of the OU team falls into that same category.

I am ready for a new quarterback too. But I wish this guy well and will remember a lot of fun games he played in. This years Texas game comes to mind!
