One thing I thought about when watching 0 dark 30, seems like he would have heard the helicopters and if the compound/fortress had had a bunker or underground escape route, they would have had sufficient time to use it. Good thing for us, he wasn't that resourceful.

If I remember right, one of the helicopters crash-landed and was destroyed by the SEALS, but what remained were parts of a stealth helicopter that had never been seen before.

I can't imagine a helicopter being too quiet, but maybe it is.

It was the new Ninja Helicopter.

In the film it was noisy like a regular helicopter and they showed the crash, and later on, its destruction.

I had forgotten that one crashed, and even though I knew how the story ended, I thought to myself, "oh no, it's a Jimmy Carter rescue mission again!"

My understanding of the Stealth chopper is that radar has a hard time
getting a fix on it and the noise factor is reduced significantly, it's faster
than most and has a lot of electronics on board that allows it to fly in
lousy weather.

There is a protocol for destroying the sensitive gear if it goes down,
similar to AWACS...stating the obvious here...
