They are the only FBS coaches, since 1970, to win a national championship that have been allowed over 10 years tenure after their last (or only) national championhip win. Twelve years total tenure post NC to be exact. Paterno had 25 years, and Edwards had 16.
.
I love Stoops, but he is in rarified air regarding the patience of a school's admin.

Monday morning, there was what, 7 head coaches fired in the NFL? Did you hear Stoop's name mentioned for any of them?

The NFL is where College Coaches go to get fired and end up back in College Football for 10-20 more years. Except in the case of Pete Carroll. He left a near death sentence for a decent paying job that he should have never left.

How many coaches stay at a school for 10 years, period?

Not Chizik, Saban, Tressel, Meyer, Meyers, Coker.

So it inherently makes the list very small.

There have been 31 coaches to win the NC since 1970. Only 9 have been fired or forced to resign.

Switzer, Ford, Paterno, Holtz, Bowden, Carr, Fulmer, Coker, Chizik. And the first 3 of those names (Swizer, Ford, Paterno) were forced out with issues nothing to do w/ football.
