I just watched the 2006 OU/TX A&M game, and Paul Thompson played extremely well. Remember that the names were removed because of all of the attitudes BEFORE the Bomar stuff. OU won 17-16, with 270 yards rushing, and 63 yards passing. Allen Patrick was fun to watch. Defense stuffed Lane most of the time.

263 total yards. It was tough to watch. After the first 2 drives, had a hard time even getting a first down.

Curtis Lofton saved the game with a shoe-string tackle of Goodson, on what looked to be a breakaway run.

I was driving home up I-35 that night from an art exhibit in downtown Fort Worth. I remember listening to the kickoff as we pulled out of FW. That was a dreary, rainy night.

That team had spunk.

I wonder if the names were really taken off the backs because of team unity, or because the style had just been redesigned around the neck.

The "Sooners" on the front was waaaay lower than it used to be, and perhaps the team was just like "eff it, tell the public we're promoting team unity till we can get em more redesigned to fit names on the backs."

the early speculation was that it was because of a sense of entitlement. after the season it was said that there was a change to the uniform that was done late that prevented the names from being added.

I remember that was the line. Though I don't think I was buying it. What could it have been, the material wouldn't hold a name plate being sewn on?

it was marketing -- the nameless jersey you buy at the OU bookstore is the nameless jersey your favorite player is wearing :P

I lost about 5 years of my life watching that game.

They did shut us down, though I still think the holding call on Kelly on Patrick's great long run was ticky tacky. You see stuff like that all the time on receiver blocks. SMH.

Stoops kept complaining all summer long about the "attitude of some players", meaning they were not doing what was expected of them in training, etc. The statement they couldn't figure out how to put names on the uniforms is just a smoke screen on what was truly going on.....

I don't remember exactly but it had to do with the nameplates not fitting properly.

That was fun to watch. I remembered the timeout on the first fourth down attempt. My conservative wimpy self was yelling at the screen to punt the ball away (even today in rewatching it), especially after the time out brought back the successful run. My brother was at that game. (Allen Patrick would have finished with 261 yards if not for the penalty on Kelly)

That was dominant defense by OU that night. And pretty damn good defense by A&M.

Unfortunately, the game on January 4 will not look anything like that game. More like 42-41, than 17-16.
