Dayum, when I was in college, I deejayed at the local radio station
and every Saturday night I signed off the air at midnight with the
long version of Ina Gadda Da Vida...used most of the running time
on the song to close up the radio station...heh, funny story, I got
fired from that job cause I played on the air a lot of the Woodstock
Live album, specifically, Country Joe and the Fish and their "Anthem".
Keep in mind that Ada, OK was/is the buckle on the Bible Belt. Station
owner was a narrow minded ole witch! (All my buds in college thot it
wuz cool, tho)

I'm sure anyone that's a fan knows how the song got it's title.

Dorman was so strung out the first time, he was trying to say "In the garden of Edan Baby", but it came out "In a gadda da vida"

Brilliant!

I can't remember the name of the club, but there was a well-known nightclub in OKC on Classen Blvd - between 10th and 23rd, that had live music.

After Iron Butterfly became stars with in-a-gadda-da-vida, 1969 is my best guess, they were at this club unannounced. Without introduction to the customers that evening, the band gets on stage and starts right into in-a-gadda-da-vida.
