So I work in PE and we value Companies as using their Earnings x a multiple to get to Enterprise Value. How does the article derive value?

One would assume that the more profitable the more valuable but it doesn't exactly work that way with the article. Is it assigning a higher multiple based on the program itself?

Forbes determines value by the following:

"Team value is determined by the money generated by each team for it's athletic department, it's university's academic programs, other conference teams and the local business community."

So, in other words, there is no real formula.
