I struggle with the grief, I struggle with what I knew would be some
reaction to anything that resembled a political opinion. What the prez
had to say was spot on, eloquent and, imo, apolitical. I don't think that
one could not say something about such an evil act. Doesn't matter your
politics, it begged to be said. May our God take those little ones in his
loving arms and hold them close, the heroic adults who tried to help the
children, as well. There are no words to explain what was in that person's
mind that drove him to take so many lives, nor would I try.

I'm certain that something will come of this, what I don't know. I sure
dislike seeing political side taking.

Lieberman et al. already pledged to get the ball rolling on an assault rifle ban. They also want a government commission to examine mass shootings in America. The timing and plans are all very shrewd politically in a Machiavellian sort of way. It seems pretty clear to me they'll have some success with this.

i think we are all looking for answers. His remarks were appropriate although misguided. This is not the first mass shooting that has happened under Obama and it may not be the last. Quite honestly I think it is the straw that broke the camels back and he feels the need to do something. My hope is that he will take a multifaceted approach and come up with solutions that work. As a gun owner advocate I would not loose much sleep if they required better background checks and closed the so called gun show loophole.

Well Feinstein didn't waste any time jumping on Meet the Press. I agree, I don't know what the answers are. I as a gun owner as well don't want that right taken. I'm a teacher and taking CC this Jan...was planning before this. I do know there are some teachers that no way in hell I'd want them carrying. IF I could I would. I'd be open to having some law saying you must take steps to secure your guns, if not then you might be held liable as well along with better background checks. The problem is criminals/crazy folks will get guns illegally...this kid stole his, so no law "on paper" prevented that. Unfortunately that wouldn't have mattered because the mom is dead as well. Maybe she did and the kid threatened to kill her...no one will know. Yes, he didn't DIRECTLY say guns...but the thought was there. The dems are already pushing it again.

I have no problem with background checks, but it's not going to do much to stop these incidents because most of these guys have no criminal background. This kid, the guy that shot up the movie theatre, the guy that shot the Gabby Giffords. I don't know why the attention automatically goes to guns rather than mental health. I guess dealing with mental health is a tougher nut to crack. The politicians can implement an assault weopons ban and require more background checks and say they did something without really doing anything.
